Yet you posted the info, and claimed the South was backwards? As if any stereotype can be justified by posting blatantly biased info?

I admit there's still a lot of work to be done, but considering what's been going on here in the past 25 years or so, I'd say we've made considerable progress, and have "joined" the rest of the country.

Blatantly biased? What are you talking about? It's just a survey that speaks for itself.

Oh god. Fewer than half of all Southerners believe Obama was born in the US? That can't be right..

That's insane.

Not really. I think the south has done good enough, especially with the second great migration of all the blacks moving down here for better job oppurtunities. Cities like ATL, HOU, DAL have been seen as great cities for blacks to move to for many oppurtunities. Also ATL and HOU have even seen black mayors. If that doesn't shake the racist stereotypes of old, I don't know what will?

You make a good point, I'm sure the urban areas in the south are far less backwards than the rural.

Why don't posts like this, or threads like this entire thread, for that matter, ever get taken down? Are the moderators biased against the South?

I for one, as a Southerner, am getting sick of the hypocrisy on this site. Instead of discussing who has better mass transit systems or what not, I would like for the Northerners involved in this debate to explain to me why the South is growing the most in population? I see threads about this all the time one here despite all the hatred directed at the South. If you don't like us then please don't live with us. By doing so you are just practicing hateful hypocrisy of one of the most vile kinds.

Not only are they "far less backwards than the rural areas," some of them are downright progressive - believe it or not!

Who cares?????? You know you are doing something right when you recieve hate, thats what I always say. You know what the south is really like, if they wanna make little comments then let them. Anywhere I go I am proud to say Im from the south!!! The reaction I get from females in other cities when they hear my Atlanta accent alone lets me know that the views people have on this site dont always translate into the real world

From what I've heard (and to an extent seen), this is very true. IMO, the rural parts of the South and Deep South states are a POS, but the urban cities of the South, particularly Houston, Austin, Northern Virginia (excluding DC), and Charlotte are more progressive than the Northeastern cities, even to the point of being as progressive as Seattle, San Diego, and Denver.
