I think you could argue LA, DC, and Chicago as the #2 city.

LA is very influential as far as entertainment and media, but lacks the financial power of Chicago. Without Chicago financial markets around the world would freeze. DC obviously is important due to its political sector.

NYC: Finance
LA: Exports
CHI: Transportation
HOU:Energy/Oil
SF: Technolgy
DC: Government

Like you stated, Boston takes a backseat to the bay area when it comes to technology. The cities I listed above are first at what they do.

How does Education not benefit the rest of the nation? look at the top executives that run many of those corporations around the nation, quite a few of them were educated in Harvard Business School, all those Engineers at MIT, Doctors at Harvard Med, etc....how you do not see that as an impact is beyond me.

As far as number one in any category (outside of education) how about Healthcare, Medical Research and Biotech? I guess those three are not important either.

It will have to take a backseat to Boston on that one. Boston is number one for NIH funding and the only city in the country to have two hospitals ranked in the Top 10 US news best hospitals list (MGH and BWH) In addition Medical and Pharma research is top in the nation here also.

And your point? Ever heard of Mass General, BWH, Children's Hospital and Beth Israel? I was not saying that Houston is not a top Medical city, I am saying that it is second to Boston. I pointed out above why as well.

I see nothing in your statements that makes a point for Boston being better in medical than Houston. Equal maybe but not better.

Number 1 for NIH funding, ONLY city that has two Hospitals ranked in the top 10 in the nation on the US News Report (The most respected study in the medical community)

Houston is 11th for NIH funding; Houston does not have a Hospital ranked in the top 10. Should I continue and speak about Pharma companies and Research Institutions? Or how about the top three Health Insurance plans are located in Massachusetts? Nah I guess I haven't said anything yet

I never said Houston was only about oil. I asked "Aside from oil, what does Houston do that makes it more important than Boston?" That's a legitimate question.
