Even for a very young city, Miami seems to be holding its own which is somewhat impressive. We can't expect it to be Chicago or NYC. I have a feeling if Miami was established well earlier on, because of its location and reputation as an international city it would rival NYC as the best city in the US, and Chicago would've been an afterthought.
Ehh.. you could say that about other cities too. That wouldn't apply to just Miami.

Chicago's under construction

Now go back to laying on the beach like like a hippie and feeling your way into water temperature discussions. You know nothing outside of beaches, palm trees, surfing, water related crud, & water temperature- stick to what you (limitedly) know & don't try to play it off like you're smarter than you actually are. Your kind sicken me- everything that's wrong with America. You know nothing about skylines.
Pretty much what I said in a post earlier. Miami isn't in the same stratosphere when it comes to skylines. It's not near NYC or Chicago nor will it ever be.
What's going on in these cities for buildings approved or proposed?
Don't know about Miami, but there's a lot going on here in Chicago especially in the "downtown" area. Many buildings being built and many starting soon, many proposals and many that will start not too long from now (say, within a year or so). By the end of next year, there should be between 5000 and 6000 new residential units in the River North/North end of the Loop areas alone. More in West Loop.
There's a ton going on and will continue for awhile.
Here are things mostly under construction right now and there's many more things happening that's not on here either proposed or what not: http://chicago.curbed.com/archives/2...opment-map.php

Oh no you had to revive a nearly 5 month old thread! A few projects for Miami as of today :

Brickell House | 46 Floors | 524 ft | Under Construction June 2012
1100 Millecento Residences Brickell | 42 Floors | 491 ft | Under Construction September 2012
EnV Mary Brickell Village Residences | 35 Floors | 379 ft | Under Construction October 2012

Icon Bay | 42 Floors | 449 ft | Under Construction March 2013

mybrickell | 28 Floors | 283 ft | Under Construction 1Q 2012
Skyview | 27 Floors | 286 ft | Under Construction August 2012
The biggest project in Miami & probably in the entire South is the Brickell City Centre being developed by Swire Properties of Hong Kong. The $1.2 billion dollar project occupies 4 city blocks in the Brickell financial district and consists of 7 highrises with retail. Five of the 7 towers will be over 500+ feet.
When you add Miami beach and sunny isle beach. Then Miami has a larger skyline, But the palm tree and warm crystal clear water always get me I fall in love every time I go.

Miami and the area has a larger skyline than Chicago? I don't think so..Chicago has many high rises that continue for a handful of miles north of "downtown". You'd have to be kidding me...Chicago has the 2nd most highrises in the US only to NYC.

You are correct but the Miami area ranks 3rd. in the US in terms of highrises after NYC & Chicago. Emporis estimated the amount of highrises to number over 1200+ in the metro area.
