About as average midwestern as you can get, but now all I think of when I think of Joplin is how a large tornado can destroy so much of a rather large town.

Powerhouse for the state and regionally important. Good size metro with a lot of nice places and a few not so nice places. Very friendly people. Most of the black folks there seem to have southern accents, which kinda threw me off being that it's the Midwest.
