Have you been to Seattle? Baltimore is pretty laid-back compared to the clubs, the vibe, and pace of Seattle. Seattle is a city for the 21st century, with all due respect, Baltimore is a city of the 19th and 20th centuries, not that there is anything wrong with that.

Cities for the 21st century are usually less urban than cities of the 19th centuries. Urbanity is not the trend yet despite that many people are fighting for it. People go to NYC for the amenities and jobs it provides, not the cramped little homes or the dirty smelly subways. They are just some things you have to suck up if you want amenities at the level of NYC. So being urban is not always a compliment.

Yes, I have been to Seattle! And I go to Baltimore at least twice a month. Baltimore is way more fast paced than Seattle. Baltimore is a east coast city. The culture, lifestyle and vibe of the city is on a different level than Seattle. I always use the jaywalk test when I visit a city to see if the city is in a hurry. Everyone on the east coast jaywalks. Seattle????

Seattle has some very urban pockets...for instance, the areas around westlake, parts of Belltown, Pioneer Square, Capitol Hill. In fact, I would venture to say that--for example--3rd and Pike is more urban than anywhere (that I've seen at least) in Baltimore.

That said, on the whole Baltimore has a more urban fabric. The outer neighborhoods are much more urban than Seattle's. It's close, but I give the nod to Baltimore.

Thats a bad test. Japan has some of the most fast-paced cities in the world, and nobody jaywalks there!

So you are saying that by virtue of Baltimore being on the east coast it is automatically a fact-paced city? I already agreed that Baltimore is a more dense and urban city than Seattle. I just didn't feel that fast-pace when I visited. And jaywalking does not make a city fast-paced. The reason why few jaywalk in Seattle has little to do with pace, but much to do with extreme enforcement of the law for decades.

That's because in Japan automobiles WILL run you over if you're in the road when you're not supposed to be.
