I’ve done extensive business travel that has taken me to most major U.S. cities. Notable towns that have a reputation for good nightlife that I have not been to and therefore can not judge: Nashville, Memphis, Mobile, Milwaukee, and Savannah. I apologize if someone has asked this question before, I’m relatively new to this forum.

1)The Strip (Las Vegas, NV)
2)South Beach (Miami, FL)
3)Rush Street (Chicago, IL)
4)Greenwich Village (New York, NY)
5)Bourbon Street (New Orleans, LA)
6)Times Square (New York, NY)
7)Hollywod (Los Angeles, CA)
8)North Beach (San Francisco, CA)
9)Buckhead (Atlanta, GA)
10)Gaslamp District (San Diego, CA)
11)Back Bay (Boston, MA)
12)Georgetown (Washington, DC)
13)Lodo (Denver, CO)
14)South Street (Philadelphia, PA)
15)Wriglyville (Chicago, IL)
16)6th Street (Austin, TX))
17)The Flats (Cleveland, OH)
18)Belltown (Seattle, WA)
19)Federal Hill (Baltimore, MD)
20)French Quarter (Charleston, SC)

Honorable Mention: Church Street Station (Orlando, FL); River Walk (San Antonio TX); Adams Morgan (Washington, DC)
Some comments:

1. Times square is really not much of a nightlife district. Nightlife is spread throughout all of Manhattan (especially in Lower Manhattan).

2. Rush Street should not be that high. Wrigleyville has just as many if not more more bars. River North and Wicker Park are other areas that you have to take into consideration when talking about major nightlife districts in Chicago. They should probably be on the list.

3. The Flats is not the center of nightlife in Cleveland anymore. Cleveland's main nightlife areas are the Warehouse District and to a lesser extent E. 4th Street. When the Flats was at its peak it was insane though. Probably top five in the country. That was a good 10 years ago.

4. I think there is more nightlife in Old City than on South Street in Philly.

The best nightlife is in NYC. If you want to party, go to NYC hands down. NYC as a whole is a party city.

Yea - I agree, I would call TSQ a Nightlife District as much as it is a "Theme Park" without rides.

Nightlife is all over Manhattan from Harlem to Battery Park. I'm on 125th one night, and down in Tibeca the next, and on 3rd Ave around Gramercy pk the night after that. And there's wonderful nightlife in Brooklyn too.

Philly - South of Chestnut is Pretty live every weekend, ofcourse im including more then S. Street here. Old City is pretty much 1st Fridays and that's it.

I really enjoy Adams-Morgan in DC.

Also love the Mission District and North Beach in San Francisco.

E. Carson Street in Pittsburgh is great too...

The recently talked about Hoboken has great nightlife.
It's extremely expensive to live there though... It's where the young and successful live. (median age, 30)

Nashville - Broadway and the surrounding area is a lot of fun

For Boston I'll add Faneuil Hall -it's a little cheesy and touristy, but that area has 20+ bars that always seemed packed on weekends.

Austin's 6th Street is dominated by the college & frat boy crowd.

Someone should probably add Beale Street in Memphis to that list.
