San Francisco's skyline is more dense but it still gives off a flat top appearance at some angles and the buildings are a bit on the bland side. Love the city but I was never really wowed with its skyline. The two tallest peek out of the top of a rather flat top skyline. I actually would put LA's downtown skyline at #2. San Francisco's needs color and varied height. But like some are saying, somewhere down the road all this will change.

What's the status on that thing anyway?
I rode by there today. Excavation at the site looks to be pretty much done. It's connected to the underground rail terminal, so it's a massive excavation that covers four large blocks. Occupancy is set for early 2017, I believe.
On a related note--two vantage points put San Francisco's skyline in another tier from West Coast cities: from the north, either in the water or from the Marin Headlands, and from the Bay Bridge, driving in. Amazing sights.
My fav view of SF is coming north on 101, it's wide and dense from that view. Having been in all of the major west coast downtowns I cannot discount the building density even if there're is a height disadvantage. SF is the best of the west coast. Seattle and LA are great to.

zoom in and can see the hills and density. the ferry takes you across this panorama to the other side so you see the whole thing basically.

I love the water view, but I dont think its as good as from the south, the hills hide much of the skyline.
Saw the Seattle Skyline Crossing the West Seattle Bridge yesterday and I was impressed! The Area is quickly getting more denser between Belltown and the Space Needle. lots of condos coming in. The ferris wheel adds in effect to to skyline, waking it seem friendly. I can't wait until the Waterfront in redone and then downtown will be an even better place to do. I really hope Seattle's skyline continues to expand into the Sodo District. I feel like the only thing we are missing is 1 or 2 more thousand footers between the Columbia Tower and the Space needle. then at that point infill with 300-400 foot highrises and condos, would be the only thing left to do.
