Number 1 in the world? Can you provide us with some reference?
I don't know about the number 1 in the world claim (I highly doubt that since 3rd world countries like the Philippines have traffic issues that are so far beyond what we have here its not even comparable), but here are 3 different reports that seem to agree on only one thing: LA has the worst traffic in the US. Other cities' rankings seemed to vary, but LA was consistently ranked #1.
Not really too much of a surprise considering how often LA's less-than-spectacular public transit situation comes up in discussions here, and the fact that there are more people with cars there than in any other US metro.

... then leave you car in Hoboken, Secaucus or Newark. You wouldn't like fifty thousand commuter cars from New York, Penn and CT in your neighborhood so why do you insist on driving to New York? That's what the PATH is for.

For that reason Secaucus has had residential parking permits for the past years. any area convenient to the NY buses is covered so you will find a summons on the car. Weehawken has the same statutes. you would have to find a private area to leave the vehicle. Don't even think about the CVS lot in the center of the town. The car will be towed as soon as you get on the bus. Maybe Harmon Meadow but the nearby lots all have assigned parking during the daytime. The outlying lots are a bit of a walk to the bus stops. Park & Ride would be your best bet.

That's why I think the tolls to Manhattan are still too low. Noone in NJ would like to have fifty thousand cars crusing around their block somehow everyone thinks it is cool to take his/her car to Manhattan,
Really its not even close. Not sure why L.A. gets a bad rap. Yeah, its bumper to bumper during the rush hours, but so is every large city. In NYC, you often see total gridlock way into the night on allot of the major highways. Theres a reason why allot of people in NY don't drive, because its damn near impossible half the time..
Because of the option of a good public transportaion system- - LA is worse.-
- However ,all being equal NY is right there!- The city itself isnt even the worst. Its getting over all the bridges to, The Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island.& the Tunnel -to NJ - You could get on the Long Island Expway in the morning & by the time you get to work in mid-town, need to shave again- just brutel.
Tolls too low??- Man 8 ,bucks to go over the GW is a crime!!- - I remember when it was 1.50
-but,I guess I also remember gas being 59c a gallon
