I've lived in both cities, and Chicago is definitely colder in the winter than New York, but the rest of the seasons are pretty much similar. So yea, New York has better weather just because of the winter.
I find it ironic that any city would be called subtropical even though nobody would be caught dead without a coat in the winter.
Its funny but true, NYC's average temp (high + low) doesn't drop below 32F during any month so it officially has a Subtropical climate.
Not everyone wears a big coat during the Winter either, there's some days when you need it but a hoodie is good enough because its mostly in the 40's/50's but we get into the 60's/70's very often.

You must have an internal heater or something. Come winter time, Im always bundled up pretty well.
And I dont recall it getting to 60-70's very often. Sure you're not confusing this with other sub-tropical climate cities like San Diego ?
Infamous is right. NYC can get really cold but there are some occasions where it is pleasant in the winter for a brief stint. Happens every so often. I think Chicago's wind chill factor plus the lake makes it seem colder than NYC.

I actually hate the cold with a passion, I get cold very fast, I won't go outside if it's below 25°-30° (unless it's necessary), that's the main reason I want to move lol.
I live by JFK which is always like 5°+ warmer than the rest of the city in the Winter but when we get those days with the winds coming from off of the Atlantic Ocean (like 2 miles away) its pure hell even though the Atlantic is in the 40's (in the Winter) I think. I still wear a Northface (especially on those freezing days).
We get into the 60's fairly often during the Winter while 70's are more rare but do happen.
