I've been to Miami, just was not especially concerned with designer shopping there. Or anywhere really.
To be fair, after reading the OP's post I realized where Highland Park was. But just looking at the title I had nooooooo idea what this thread was going to be about.
I guess these are just 2 more places I need to add to my very very very long list of places to go.
Highland Park Village is terrific and has a lot of history (National Historic Landmark) along with some very high end shopping...however most of the very expensive stores and boutiques in Dallas are split between HPV, the Galleria and NorthPark. The bulk of Miami high-end shopping seems to center on Bal Harbour which is convenient having it all at one location.
Looking at a store list of Highland Park Village I have no idea how it could even compare. It looks like its architecturally designed to appear high end but the actual stores aren't at the extreme like Bal Harbour. It looks like Highland Park Village is equal in stores to Mall at Millennia in Orlando but with the architecture of Bal Harbour or The Falls.
The only reason I've ever heard of Bal Harbour is b/c my ex-girlfriend bought me the Season 1 Miami Vice DVDs my freshman year at college. They were supposed to do a coke deal there, so it must be upscale. I vote Bal Harbour.
Bal Harbour has a much larger selection than Highland Park Village but they are two different animals. HPV is not very large and only has room to support a select number of stores. Its very old, inviting and charming. An overall great shopping center with a historic theater and great restaurants as well. Dallas has its very high end stores scattered around different locations.
