I was surprised by Louisville when I went there. Interesting combination of the Midwest and South (though more southern in look), beautiful area, lots of interesting neighborhoods.
Jacksonville was a bit 'meh' to me, and I was living in the Tampa Bay area at the time, so I prefer the Gulf beaches to the Atlantic beaches anyhow.

Louisville does have strikingly beautiful neighborhoods along with the greenery with its beautiful variety of trees. These are just two of the many qualities that make this city nice.
Louisville! That city surprised me, very cool, and has alot of character. On the other hand is Jax which I thought was bland, flat and generic. If anything, it's more like Southern Georgia than Northern Florida.

So true. The "Florida" that people have in mind really doesn't begin until you get further south in Daytona, or the northern suburbs of Orlando. That being said, there were parts of suburban Orlando that felt more "southern" to me than "Florida". Outside Orlando, many parts of Heartland Florida are more stereotypically southern in feel and attitude compared to the coastal cities. I passed through Bartow and Lake Wales and felt like I was back in Mississippi (where I previously lived at the time).
Jacksonville has a lot more in common with Charlotte than it does with Miami.
I'm not saying this as if it's a bad thing BTW. Truth be told, Jacksonville is more representative of what Florida is like without the overwhelming number of transplants that the other major metros have.
