LA is probally similar to Seoul, Mexico city(which is a really nice city not a big slum) and maybe Osaka and somewhat maybe Atlanta.
How about Tokyo? LA somewhat looks like Tokyo, with a mix of other cities you mentioned (especially Seoul and M.C. due to their large Korean and Mexican populations, and the sprawling layout with hills and mountains). I haven't been to Osaka yet, but maybe that is a better match for L.A. than Tokyo, while NYC and Tokyo are more similar.
I live near Tokyo right now, and the city that is probably the most similar is San Diego (just kidding). I would say Shanghai, aforementioned NYC and Los Angeles, and maybe London would be the best matches for Tokyo, and as much as I like to think its an Atlanta on steroids (mostly to cure my homesickness for the ATL), in reality its nothing like the ATL.
The other large city I live near is Yokohama, and that looks like a mix of San Diego, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, and Savannah on steroids.
Haha, I said Seoul and Mexico City too! Given the large amounts of Mexicans and Koreans there (and their neighborhoods) I dont think were far off.
Though I dont quite see Atlanta. Id love to hear your thoughts about what reminds you of Atlanta in LA. The sprawl perhaps?
Atlanta is similar to LA with the sprawl and freeway system. Also their downtown skylines looks similar, and how they have additional skylines within the cities. They also have similar problems like with smog, traffic congestion, and crime/gangs (although the Atlanta of 2009 is more like the LA of 1993, since LA doesn't have as much of crime problem anymore).
As other posters including LovinDecatur also mentioned, the best match for Atlanta would be Dallas. Some people might match ATL to Detroit, but I don't agree with that at all.
True, however my point was Houston has no true identity. You have prairies and little trees to the west and south, pine trees and rolling hills to the north, bayous and swamps to the east.
Some parts look like Dallas, some look like LA, some look like NO, some look like Miami, etc
Actually, if you take away the geographical differences of the two cities, Denver looks similar to a Mini-Houston. At least in my opinion.
i'd say philly is a perfect mix of baltimore, newark and boston
nyc = london, tokyo
I don't see how London, Tokyo and NYC have anything in common...they're apart of the Big 3-4 cities in the world, but they all look completely different and have completely different styles.
I'd say Pittsburgh is a perfect cross between Philadelphia and West Virginia. Though it shares some similarities to other rust belt cities like Cleveland, Detroit, and Cincinnati.

the only cities with a high frenetic pace
i haven't seen an american city come close (and i think london is slower of the 3)
