We have Thunder over Louisville, the largest fireworks show in the country that kicks off the Derby festival which is two weeks of different events leading up to Derby. We also have a Bluegrass Festival, Abbey Road on the River, The St James Art Fair, good lord we have several.

Some folks are just naming random ass events that are not very popular outside of their city or region.

Only a few events are famous (i.e. nationally/internationally reknowned): Kentucky Derby, Mardi Gras, Puerto Rican Day Parade in NYC, Macy's Day Parade, Taste of Chicago.

There are others, but these pop in my head first.

Tucson has:

La Fiesta del los Vaqueros (Tucson Rodeo Parade) - The world's largest non-mechanized parade.

All Souls Procession Weekend - Modeled on the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) takes place on the first Sunday of each November (Thursday-Sunday).

Tucson Gem & Mineral Show - One of the largest gem and mineral shows in the world. It is held each February for two weeks.

The title is "Famous City Events" and then the OP goes on to list Freaknik and Mardi Gras, which suggests events on the lines of things that are nationally known.

I'm not sure if my local Stone Mountain Pumpkin Patch Party would make the cut in this particular thread...
