Fascinating article.

It illustrates two starkly contrasting corporate cultures and their very different aims.

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. I went to a tech/engineering school and have a lot of friends employed there in various industries and the corporate culture is so much more idealistic (and at the same time practical) than it is here in NYC. There's a certain awareness of the world that NYC, despite how cosmopolitan it is, generally lacks.

Too bad there's no film industry to speak of there.

100% True.

LucasFilms and Pixar Studios are located in the Bay Area. Aslo, a huge army base in the heart of the Bay is being converted into a production studio that will combine 20+ local film companies in one huge facility. We'll see how that pans out.
