San Francisco is a consolidated city-county. Its 46.7 square miles.
Seattle is a city. Its 142.5 square miles.
Portland is a city. Its 145.4 square miles.
Boston is a city. Its 89.6 square miles.
New Orleans is a consolidated city-county (technically a city-parish). Its 350.2 square miles
Miami is a city. Its 55.3 square miles
Denver is also a consolidated city-county. Its 154.9 square miles.
Atlanta is a city. Its 132.4 square miles.
Minneapolis is a city. Its 58.4 square miles.
Washington D.C. is a District. Its 68.3 square miles.

I think this is a big insight as to why places like D.C., San Francisco, Boston, Miami, and Minneapolis have more vibrant feels than the others. They are significantly smaller. My vote went to all 5.

Boston is only 48 square miles. That number is either Suffolk County [which in NOT coterminus with Boston] or that includes the water area.

Boston and SF are the same area-almost exactly.

Not that phrase again. I haven't heard that little phrase in a while.

"If we are talking about real cities"...like all of those other cities besides SF and BOS are some little farm towns or something, stop being so ignorant.

Probably does include the water area. New Orleans total area is 350 sq mi, but when youb subtract water and swamp the city itself is only about 87 sq mi.

Honolulu should be included on the list as well. Unfortunately, it's mistaken as being in a different country on here or completely forgotten altogether

SF wins this. Boston probably second.
What's the point of saying nearly the same exact thing--or at least voting for the same city--within a few posts of yourself?

The reason there is so much technical "area" to the of Boston is because all of the Boston Harbor Islands are included in the city's area. So technically the city of Boston actually reaches out several miles into Massachusetts Bay so it can include all of the islands and the water which surrounds those islands. If you were to subtract the islands and the airport, you'd probably get a land area equal to or slightly smaller than San Francisco's.

Hm... that's funny. No one ever told me that the other cities were "fake".

I'd say DC, Boston and SF are all very close. Too hard to pick just one because this topic could be debated forever. They are all vibrant, but very different from each other. So it kind of depends on what appeals to you. In my opinion, these three would be above the rest though.
