I often run into New Yorkers and once they learn that I am from LA, they often have to boast and prove to me how great NYC is. I find that this happens constantly. Is it just an inferiority complex New Yorkers have, or do they just have tremendous pride in their city?

It's rare that I'll encounter Angelenos bashing NYC...maybe because we don't have those kinds of hangups?

Yes, NYers are intimidated even though NYC is far more powerful, larger and much more popular.

People love New York...LA, not so much. NYC is the golden child and LA is the outcast.

Sometimes, I feel sorry for Los Angeles. It's not that bad of a place but has such a bad rep. Oh well.

Pffft! It is just the finer cocktails that I cherish. Now, excuse me, but you are blocking my view of the Pacific with your brash New Yorkness. Please, stand aside so that I can return to my bubble.

I think both get jealous of each other - both get a fair bit of media exposure, so I don't think either has been left out of the spotlight completely.

New Yorkers are probably jealous of LA's beautiful scenery and natural blessings, while some Angelino's will definitely miss New York's more urban big city feel.

It's a stereotype, but it seems to hold true. NYers can get pretty full of themselves for being associated with the city even though they themselves aren't much to look at--Angelenos do it, too, but not to the same extent.

I went my whole life until now not knowing that someone form L.A. is called an "Angeleno"

That was also the bearded guy on the TV sitcom Three's Company
