"Yuppies" is too vague a term, sort of like "college-educated"

Consider industries....finance and tech....slice data by 25yo w/incomes >$500K/yr (by tax returns); 30yo w/incs >$1MM/yr; 35yo w/incs >$5MM/yr...it's a head-on competition between Manhattan and PaloAlto area, SF's PacHts and FinDt (the various new condo towers for SV workers)....and for >35yo w/kids, it's Greenwich CT and Manhattan vs Woodside/Atherton CA and SF's PacHts

I thought this thread was about Yuppies. Or are you making the argument that everyone who makes $200k+/year is a yuppie, regardless of age?

Chicago has a lot of these "yuppies". Go anywhere downtown, keep walking north through the Gold Coast, Old Towne, Lincoln Park, and even into Lakeview. There's so many, Chicago has coined their own term, labeling them "Chads" and "Trixies".

chicago has it easy, definitely has them but not as dominating in the culture, go to california new york or dc if you want to see the real deal, just on another level.

my vote goes for manhattan...easily, other regions have some people making decent pocket change, but the epicenter of the megabucks is in manhattan.

New York (and Manhattan in particular) with its economical might and hosting two major business districts and most Fortune 500 and international corporations in the US pulls a lots of talent both from within the US and abroad. A lot of this talent are very young kids. Add to this media/arts market that dwarfs anything else in the US and as a result you get plenty of young people making 6 figures or more. New York is a yuppie bonanza and young professionals really set the tone for the entire city. Everything and everybody tries to cater to this upward moving crowd, their spending habits and preferences.
