I am about to make my move to either San Diego or Seattle. I'm in my late 20's and work in the tech industry, no kids/debt, and will be moving with no job. I have about $20k saved to hold me over until I find employment. Please give your opinion which city would be a better location for me.
Seattle
Pros - better economy and job prospects, modern tech environment, better transit system
Cons - weather, some have said the people are less open/friendly
San Diego:
Pros - sun, surf, I have a few contacts there
Cons - not as many jobs, more spread out infrastructure

San Diego is ugly, brown, and arid. Gross smog, wildfires, and all of that. I'll take refreshing mist drizzle during wet months, clean air, beautiful scenery with America best summer.
Having lived near both, I'd pick San Diego. That isn't to say there aren't some nice things to see and do way up there near Seattle (i.e. San Juan Islands, Vancouver, Victoria, etc...). It's just that winters there are SO depressing. It's the lack of sunlight that is unbearable.

Thanks for the input. I was leaning towards SD but job prospects just seem better in Seattle. I really love the beach and sun. There's only 1 poll result and it was for Seattle so I'm a bit confused. Did you pick Seattle by mistake?
Thanks for the replies. Upon further research, I found out that Seattle has a higher cost of living at 42.60% higher than the U.S. average vs. 32.70% for San Diego.
It doesn't matter. That cost of living is absorbed by how much you have to drive in San Diego to get around. And if that doesn't do it, California taxes will.
Yes, I believe the COL would cancel out because of what you mentioned on top of the state income tax incurred. I just wanted to mention the cost of living difference because I originally thought that San Diego had a higher COL and had posted as such in the original post. I've made an edit to omit that part now.
I actually do not care for driving at all. I've always lived within 5 minutes of work to avoid the commute. Ideally, I would not drive at all.
