There is a rivalry, but it stops at sc/montery at the coast, and fresno in the valley. Northern californias are quick to point out their beefs with so cal.

So cal by contrast does not have a city like sf or any city for that matter on its radar. LA is unique in the sense that it is the only city in the US like this. People in LA have no beef with SF, SD, Chicago, New York , the south. In fact most people in LA would not be able to find these places on a map, and they like it that way.

Its always people from some where else(usually the places listed abouve) trying to pick a fight with LA for pretty much no reason. I'm a midwesterner and I've noticed this.

Makes you have to wonder about the bay.... its residents believe it to be superior to anything in the world, yet they have an inferiority complex with LA, a smoggy, less educated, less wealthy, autocentric... megalopolis. And yet everyone one rich or famous from all over the US typically has a spot in LA.

Cant stop it, LA is just the place to be. And if you can make it there, than there is no reason to be concerned with whats going on in San Fransisco. By contrast people in NOR cal always know whats going on down in socal, seeing as how 2/3 of california live down south and thus have political dominance.

As so cal goes, goes the rest of california. Hence why gray davis (who with in a year turned californias massive surplus into a deficit) was outed and Aarnold elected. LoL there are people in the bay(including state-level congressmen) still bitter about that.

I live and was raised in Orange County and LA and you're right, Northern California is irrelevant to most down here. And yea I've heard all crappy comments from our neighbors up north but as far as we're concerned, Northern California might as well be a different country.

Heck, i'll guess more people in the LA area know more about other cities like New York than we know about San Francisco. It's that way within my family and friends.

We are carefree and live in our own bubble. and I like it that way. More people come down her from up there than vice versa.

Just like this forum. Why so many LA threads? None of us care. Other cities get all hyper whenever someone disses their cities, most of us here just ignore it and get on with our lives which don't involve any other city.

My experience has been with LA and with SF, so I'll only comment in connection with those two cities. I've definitely noticed the dislike held by many in SF towards LA. When we lived in LA people were happy to talk about how much they loved San Francisco, while when we moved to SF people were quick to say things like "you must be SO happy to get out of LA." I totally agree with those who have said that people in LA seem indifferent (or even positive) towards SF, while there seems to be a rule that if you live in SF you have to hate LA. I don't get it myself. It's certainly possible to like both.

Northern California is mad that LA is what the world sees on television and in movies. It's pretty sad and pathetic.

This whole idea of a rivalry is a NorCal/San Francisco thing. People in SoCal really don't care. Most folks down here either like NorCal or are indifferent.

Another thing I noticed is how many people up north had "NOR CAL" on their shirts, hats, hoodies, even on their pick up trucks. Never saw that in socal.

NOR CAL is a clothing line that makes other accessories like car stickers. There is no southern counterpart called SO CAL. This would be the reason you never saw it in SoCal.

So what is the deal with having a big logo sticker on the back of a truck or car? I've never seen anyone with an "armani" or "ralph lauren" or "gucci" on the back of their car. I got the sense it was more a regionalism/parochial statement. 9 times out of 10 there was usually an accompanying raider sticker or SF giants sticker on these cars.
