What areas in your town would consider to be "crunchy suburbs" like described in the book Bobos in paradise? They tend to be older suburbs that are a smaller and more urban than the typical sprawling, strip mall, cookie cutter surburbs with the garage as the focal point of the house.
Nyack, NY. Montclair is barely Bobo. We have nothing here, that I know of, that compares to the bobo enclaves of California or Vermont. I have a weird thing about Bobos - I despise them mostly, but I like their bobo areas with the health food stores and antique shops and all that. I don't understand it myself. I can go enjoy a smoothie with wheat germ and shop for organic vegan soap and buying it all from some bobo, but when it comes to looking at some dopey bobo parking his or her Subaru and looking like he or she just stepped out of a Kashi commercial, I want to just smack him or her in the head with a Grateful Dead album. I think I'm truly crazy.
I dunno, I consider Bay area bobo central of the u.s. so... there are dozens of places like that, definitely like that up here... It is the quintessential used to be a hippy now you are a yuppie...Lots of granola homeless looking people dressed like an elf in hand fashioned leather or if not then organic fair trade cotton greens and browns but then they get in their brand new mercedes or porsche suv or of course, a prius, the newest fad though is the nissan cube though..lots driving that one around, and they've traded their kombucha in for probiotic drinks. It is pretty ultra catered towards rich boomers in north sf bay.
