If I look out back I see some nice palm trees in the midst of a clearing in the native oak forest. Best of both worlds!

One of my neighbors up the road has a nice tall Washingtonia growing through the canopy of one of his oaks. His yard is sort of out of control ... LOL!

I haven't seen a true Palm in years...so I guess right now I'd prefer Oaks.

I like Oak Trees better because as a kid I would climb them. But really nothing beats a Mango tree

Free Mangos, Nice Leaves, Tons of Shade, and climbable. Had a huge one at my place when I was overseas, fantastic.

Definitely oaks which give you SHADE. Palm trees are ugly. When they drop their frawns, they look like road kill in the streets

Why not both?
It's the perfect combination when they're side by side.

LOL! You are definately in the minority if you think palms are ugly. Why do you suppose Rockefeller Center spends a fortune every summer to have all the huge, beautiful potted ones all over the Plaza?

And it's "fronds" that drop, not frawns.

I love the look of live oak trees and the fact that they stay green all year. Cities that have a good amount of live oaks and palms are my fav.
