Pretty much name any Sunbelt city & it has a serious, serious sprawl problem. I can't wait to move to a northeastern so that I can live a legit urban lifestyle.
Here is my list of the worst US cities for sprawl:
Phoenix
Houston
Dallas/Fort Worth
Atlanta
Las Vegas

Vegas and Phoenix are some of the least sprawling metros in the nation
St.Louis is very sprawled out which i hate. Our sprawl should stop in st.louis county (the immediate county ingulfing the city) but its spread into st.charles and jefferson. The worst part is that stl county has lost population to st.charles and jefferson but some of the towns closest to stl county are loosing growth to even farther suburbs and exurbs. Within 20 yrs we might sprawl into the counties bordering st.charles and jefferson which would just become a nightmare at that point. It will never stop until people realize they cant have large houses with huge amounts of land forever, people will come and live there making land less avaliable
Actually the NYC and Chicago CSA's are the king of sprawl
Booyah!
LOL NYC urban area has more land area than anywhere else in the world except Tokyo and its understandable for them because they have almost double the population in little bit more land.
Actually the NYC and Chicago CSA's are the king of sprawl, LA is one of the least sprawling CSA's in the nation.
That's answering a different question.
Anyway, I think the answer has to be Jacksonville simply because it's the largest city in America in terms of area. Houston is pretty sprawling and I think its un-zoned nature is the main reason, but it's more concentrated than Jacksonville.

Jacksonville is bigger then nyc in land size?
