My town in particular isn't all THAT diverse, but the general area I live in is. We have a lot of italian restaurants, asian, bengali, west indian, south indian, pakistani restaurants within a mile of our house.

Hmm.....this seems pretty good. I'm not sure I'd give NYC a 10 though. just think a 10 would be too high for any city. If your going to add San Deigo; you could make a good case for Miami and Atlanta.

8. The DC Area is very diverse, but too (unintentionally) segregated in the outersuburbs to the North, West, and Southwest, and inner suburbs to the Southeast. Too many all-white/all-black/all-asian/all-hispanic neighborhoods, but I guess every city's like that. Actually the DC Area is probably much better than most when it comes to integration, but that's not saying much in this country and it still would be nice to see improvement.

um...i disagree. if queens is the most diverse area in the country alone and one of the most diverse areas in the world, how could you not give nyc a 10??

nyc: 10

i'm from queens. the amount of diversity that we have here tops any diversity anywhere else in the country. this is a fact.

Well, let's check the stats (2005-2007 Census Community Survey)
City-------White %-Black %-Hispanic %-Asian %-Foreign Born %
San Diego---48.2------6.7--------27--------14.8---------25.9
Atlanta------35.7-----56.4-------4.7--------1.9-----------6.7
Miami--------10.4-----19.3------68.6--------0.8----------58.4

There are sooo many more categories of diversity than the five you listed...each of these cities are very diverse.

The three lowest percentages for Atlanta - Hispanic, Asian, and Foreign Born - are among some of the fastest growing groups...and since the information is 3 years old, I definitely suspect that those percentages have grown quite a bit.

Syracuse
City: about a 7, maybe 8 due to diversity within the diversity
County: maybe a 4 due to most of the diversity being in the city of Syracuse, but there are some pockets in the suburbs
neighborhood: a 2, maybe 3 because you do see people of different backgrounds, just not in a decent enough volume.

I'd give SF a 6.5/7
And the neighborhood I'm in for the next couple months about a 4-6ish.
