In some ways, Oakland and Baltimore are very comparable. They're both in the shadow of more well known cities (DC and SF) and their great qualities are often overshadowed by high crime. They're also both bay cities and are recognized for their large black populations. I've personally never been to Baltimore but I've always wanted to... I currently live in Oakland and love it here so I want to see how they compare.

This thread would be comparing:

  • Food
  • Culture and Cultural Relevance
  • Diversity (not just racial; this includes religious diversity, political diversity, socio economic diversity, etc.)
  • Architecture
  • Social issues in relation to the cities (for example: racism or the lack of it. Obviously not limited to racism)
  • Contributions to the arts (music, painting, film, theatre, etc.)
  • Natural Beauty
  • How they compare economically
  • Affordability
  • Skyline
  • Education
And any other point of comparison that y'all can think of.

Baltimore:

Oakland:

EDIT: Could one of the mods add a poll? I forgot to. The question would be "Which city is the all around better city?" And the options would be "Oakland" and "Baltimore".

I'm 90% sure its Oakland's. The pic I posted doesn't look like SF.

I still like Oakland's skyline for it to be in the SHadows of San Fran and San Jose

lol at how this thread gets derailed in 5 posts. Admittedly that was a stupid mistake but...moving on to the actual thread.

And I can count the number of times I've been to SF on 2 hands and a foot (less than 15 times). Seriously.

Oakland isn't really in the shadow of SJ... its a far more active city and its downtown isn't dead when its not cinco de mayo lol. SJ is larger (and is the tech capital) but that's about it.
