Let's see, alcohol by far is the drug of choice here in L.A. and pretty much everywhere else. Everybody loves themselves some alcohol. As a matter of fact, expect a lot of people to booze up tonight because of the Superbowl.
Weed would be the most prominent by far, but it's not exactly a problem (it is legal in CA with a medical marijuana card, and for all intents and purposes is legal regardless in cities like SF, LA, Oakland, Berkeley, etc, after all). The drugs that tend to cause the most problems in terms of drug violence (and of course the creation of junkies who need a fix) are crack and heroin. You can easily get basically any drug in SF though, often just by walking down the street in the right area.
Crack and heroin in Chicago, unless you really consider weed a hard drug. I'm not from NW Indiana, but this is interesting:
Heroin by the numbers Porter County statistics among nations worst (http://chestertontribune.com/PoliceFireEmergency/heroin_by_the_numbers_porter_cou.htm - broken link)

Yeah. Powder cocaine is also huge, as well as ecstasy. Also there is an abundance of psychedelics and weed in the bay more so than any other region to my knowledge.
I chose heroin because there have been a few big heroin busts in the towns around me recently (Monmouth County, NJ).
Weed shouldn't be on the list. That's everywhere and in all social strata and it's not as though people become homeless criminals go around shooting one another over pot.
Gotta have that hometown pride since Chese is native to the Dallas area.
