It is beautiful isn't it? Did you fully explore and get an appreciation for the culture in PHX or just look around your hotel and check it off? I'm guessing you checked it off before you got off the plane.

I appreciate it's natural beauty, it really is beautifully. But the actual city is a waste. I mean compare Phoenix to Chicago, LA, Seattle, Miami, Boston, NYC, Philly, DC, etc. In regards to urban culture and identity. Not only is Phoenix severely lacking but it's actually quite embarrassing how sterile the city is, especially for its size.

I have been twice and spent one week each time as I know people there. I explored plenty of the city and really all it was was lik a boring Chicago suburb with some nice scenery.

Angry LA it is!

Phoenix overall is sucky 5 reasons:

5. NO attractions or theme parks nearby (There is the grand canyon BUT it is a 4-5 hour drive.)

4. MOST people are grouchy and mean (i.e. SCOTTSDALE)

3. No ocean

2. We are the HOTTEST city in the u.s. (Forget about that whole summer grilling thing, the next 4th of july is coming up and it is predicted to be 106 degrees farenheit outside)

1. The congress in this state just does not care about its people. (i.e. Veterans Association Hospital of Arizona scandal.)

So please, houses may be cheaper here, but REALLY? Do yourself a favor and just go to LA. Period.

L.A. is a great city, with far more to it than just the snobby Hollywood/Westside stuff. It might not be the friendliest group of people in the world, but they're friendlier and more "sunny" than people who aren't from there might expect. Plus...there's just a lifetime of cool stuff to do, only rivaled in this country by NYC.

Phoenix, while I haven't been there, just seems to me like it's San Diego without the ocean. By that, I mean...a horrible mix of driving styles from around the nation, a lot of Midwestern influence, some culture but not as much as you'd hope for, and hot dumb chicks as far as the eye can see (not that this is necessarily a complaint of mine). Going by this thread and what people who have lived or spent a lot of time in Phoenix tell me, this seems to be the case. Plus, Phoenix has Sheriff Joe; while I'm a fairly conservative fellow, Sheriff Joe attracts a certain...fan base, if you will.

Again, at least San Diego, and obviously L.A., have the ocean. L.A. drivers are also...professional.

Phoenix if you make less than $250K/yr or have less than $3M in wealth. LA if you can afford it and don't mind paying for it.

If you've never been to Phoenix, how can it seem like anything to you and why are you commenting on it? Don't take this the wrong way, but based upon the very limited information offered by those who claim to have experienced Phoenix (there are many here on CD), I seriously doubt many people on CD have spent a lot of time in Phoenix at all (other than those who actually live or have lived here), but everyone likes to chime in and be a part of something...

Having said that, LA definitely has more to offer than Phoenix.

LA seems cool, but the traffic is enough to keep me away. Living in Phoenix I make three times the median per capita income, but in LA it would only be double, meaning I'd go from a luxary condo to an okay place. Tempe has everything a young person like me really needs on a daily basis(largest campus in the nation). The summers are miserable, but I love the sun and everything the rest of the year even more than LA when I've been there.

Saw them both on the exact same trip, so I think I am a fair judge for both cities as I tried doing similar things in both. Obviously Los Angeles is in a whole different league as a city. The food is infinite it seems like, more variety, better, hella lot more fusion (which is the greatest thing in food scene in my opinion). Both areas are scenic, Los Angeles obviously more so, as it has both the ocean and mountains. Phoenix for what it is a good city. I enjoyed my time in both cities for what it is worth.

Some pictures I took when I was in Los Angeles during winter with friends. Obviously did a lot more than just what you'll see in the pictures but thoroughly enjoyed the hike near Griffith Observatory and played soccer at the beach, so lots of fun outdoors.

These are my own pictures, taken from hiking on Camelback Mountain in Phoenix during winter. After that, went and tried "Arizona style Mexican food" for dinner and it was delicious needless to say.
