I don't know man, I mean like I said earlier New York City is the most diverse city in the country, New Jersey is arguably the most diverse state in the country. Those 2 together should be owning the Bay Area, Lol I guess Connecticut is our downfall.
Well, its not just CT...
I mean, clearly NYC, Hudson and Essex Counties are hyper diverse and there's no getting around that. But once you start factoring in the entire CSAs, the Bay Area only has 1 County over 70% white, NY has 11.

i still don't think that its a toss up. i think saying that is a cop out. ethnically, nyc is more diverse so other things IMO fall into place because of that to make nyc win this topic. there is more of a representation when it comes to ethnicities which leads to more of a representation when it comes to food, music, languages, etc. which means that there is a greater chance in it being accepted by the majority and becoming part of the norm.

^^^^^^^^^those haven't been talked about in this thread nearly enough. if it wasn't 2:16am in the morning then i'd start it off.
maybe i'll go into it in a few hours when i get up.
obviously nyc's music scene has transcended borders. our art scene has too. real quick, there are more than a few bay area rappers and graffiti is all over the bay area. well, you have nyc to thank for that, for example. etc. etc.
our culture was accepted by various ethnicities here and brought to the world by various ethnicities (such as rocksteady crew, um...fab5freddy, etc.). you have mexicans in cali rapping, central americans listening to rap, for example.
things like that should probably be talked about a little more in this thread.

You can still be non-hispanic white and be diverse though. Thats where the Tri-State dominates. There are plenty of neighborhoods in the Tri-State that were or are non-hispanic white filled with Italians, Jews, Russians, Polish, Irish, Ukrainian, Spanish etc.

Yes, but a whopping 83% of the NY CSAs whites were born in the US(compared to 88% of Bay Area whites)-not exactly a huge difference.
And so while I totally acknowledge that white diversity exists, the overwhelming majority of whites in both regions are US Born and totally assimilated into our American culture, most for several generations now.
from the article: While there is no precise count, some experts believe New York is home to as many as 800 languages — far more than the 176 spoken by students in the city’s public schools or the 138 that residents of Queens, New York’s most diverse borough, listed on their 2000 census forms.
I think I'll go with what people in Queens reported to the Census before I believe a 'study'.

But it would cool if that were true.
And you think these "Community Surveys" are accurate?

I see what you mean, I just think New York has more ethnic diversity.
