Hey, I'm glad you're all noticing these things. You're all making valid points that I seemed to underestimate/forget.
This is why I wanted you guys to also make your own lists................
I just thought of another thing that would add to CA and FL's numbers- weather related visitors. I'm sure Florida gets lots of northeast and Midwest snowbirds in the winter. CA gets snowbirds from Oregon and Washington. My parents live in Palm Springs, CA and it seems like the area is way more crowded in winter. In the summer, California gets lots of visitors from NV and AZ who are trying to escape the desert heat.
I didn't look up numbers but if I were to guess (and my list is going 1-10, not sure why everyone else decided this thread would be posted with an ascending list).
1. California - I think the combination of California's size just outweighs the tourist destinations.
2. Florida - We've got some size and tourism
3. New York - NYC, Niagra Falls
4. Texas - Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, El Paso, Austin
5. Illinois - Chicago
6. Nevada - Las Vegas, Reno, Lake Tahoe
7. Massachusetts - Boston, Cambridge, and hundreds upon hundreds of boarding schools
8. Pennsylvania - Philly, Hershey Park, Pittsburgh
9. Colorado - Denver, Aspen, Colorado Springs
10. Ohio - Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Paramount King's Island, Cedar Point
Although if I were to include District of Columbia I'd probably put it in right below Illinois. Its not a state though.
1. New York - because that's where many Europeans start their American experience
2. California - If illegal visits counted, this would probably be #1, but it does have a huge population and a lot to see
3. Florida - Beaches and Disney... 'nuf said
4. Texas - Similar to California but a few less people
5. Nevada - The strip is visited by so freaking many people!
6. Illinois - Chicago is pretty huge after all
7. Colorado - Maybe it's just me, but I know a lot of people who have been there
8. Massachusetts - Honestly, I'm surprised it's not in everyone's top 10
9. Hawaii - I wouldn't be surprised if you've seen more movies about going there than you even know people who have gone.
10. Pennsylvania - Philadelphia is huge and historic after all
I read somewhere that New York had replaced Florida as the #1 tourism state but I also read that Florida is still #1. So I am going by my gut reaction here.
1. Florida
2. New York
3. California
4. Texas
5. VIRGINIA
6. Nevada
7. Massachusetts
8. New Jersey
9. Hawaii
10 Pennsylvania
