Not entirely true... Fort Worth leads the area in growth since 2000 numercial wise.

Downtown: Denver has a much more interesting and vibrant downtown.

Skyline: Dallas, it's a lot more contemporary

Food: Dallas, I can't say eating in Denver is a memorable experience, except perhaps Bojo's pizza. Dallas is more of a world city and bigger is better in this category.

Location: Denver. Sure Dallas is closer to other ranking cities but its topographically in the middle of nowhere. Some say.. but Dallas has rolling green prairie and there are some woodlands and short hills on the edge of the metro area. But come on, really The Rocky Mountains make it no contest. For a guy like me, when its a nice day I like to go for a ride and get out of town for a bit, I'd much rather drive into the Rockies and go hiking, skiing, or white water rafting.

Weather: Denver. Even though Denver swings a lot and has a strange bi-polar climate subject to continental influences (65 degree sunny days in February, snowstorms in May), it has more variation and is easier to tolerate than 3 months of inferno heat on lock in the summer with no mountains to cool off, just muddy man made lakes.

Museums/Arts: Dallas, but Denver is certainly no slouch here.

Cityscape: outside of downtown this is a real draw for both cities. North Dallas has some beautiful neighborhoods with impressive architecture. Although Denver is a bit spread out, it feels much more cohesive than Dallas.

Transportation: Another draw.
-Denver and DFW airports are both great. DFW a slight edge for more international flights.
-Light Rail, both are expanding their systems exponentially to their suburbs. But with downtown Denver as the destination riding the train into the city it offers more than a workaday 9-5 commuter environment than Dallas does.
-Freeways: Dallas has exceptional freeways. Denver's are not bad.

Future: Dallas will be a city to watch in the future economically, Denver will be as well. But Dallas has big plans with its Trinity River park proposal and the new bridges. I see downtown Dallas coming around eventually and in time will likely get more vibrant.

Overall pick: Denver. The Rocky Mountains on the edge of the city and a more vibrant downtown make it the deal breaker for me.
