Obviously because of the colder weather up north during the winter, many northerners tend to go down south for awhile. What I've noticed is that people from areas up north tend to congregate in certain areas.

In St Paul for example, Fort Myers is the typical sunbelt getaway. I don't know if this is because the Twins training camp is there or because the local airline, Sun Country, has cheap flights there, but it seems that when most people from the Twin Cities head south, more likely than not it's to the Fort Myers/Sanibel Island area. That's the typical place to go and when down there, at anytime during the winter, it isn't uncommon to run into a large number of Minnesotans. A lot more people from here are also beginning to go to Scottsdale, AZ (it's especially popular with the older folk) but in no way near the numbers that go to Fort Myers.

So fellow people from cold weather states, where does it seem most people from your neck of the woods head off to?

I stay in the North, by visiting Vermont, Maine, Chicago, Wisconsin, etc..

I once made a Feb trip to LA; it was enjoyable, but it felt a little odd wearing shorts outside during the winter months..

My "winter escape" is the White Mts in NH if I had to pick.

When the snow comes, I head north.

Some Southwest towns double their size when the snowbirds arrive in November. Places like Borrego Springs & Palm Springs are popular for northerners.

I'm a Midwesterner, my parents decided a long while back to call Houston our permanent winter escape.

But decided to leave Chicago as our summer escape.
