Well, many cities compare in different ways. East Coast cities compare in their urban form.

LA compares in its cosmopolitan feel

Chicago compares in its skyscrapers

etc

Toronto, if we're talking about comparing it to a city in Canada. I personally prefer Toronto as the nicer, cleaner version of NYC.

Chicago may be trying to compete with NYC, but I don't think NYC gives Chicago a second thought.

As blunt as that sounds.

its not a competition, tho.

its one sided. its like a lil brother always trying to one up the big brother but he can't. the big brother could just be sitting there eating a sandwich and the lil brother has to eat his faster or something. the big brother just looks over at him as he chokes from eating too fast like, "..."

thats like ny vs chicago.

And also take into account the Sears Tower is finished 3 years after the World Trade Center, and didn't they add on a longer spire to the Sears Tower to beat the World Trade Center by 3 feet?
The Chicago Subway is called the "L" because it's short for elevated. The majority of Chicago's rail is above ground (much like the train lines in portions of Brooklyn & Queens), even in downtown.

I'm not really sure that Chicago is trying to compete with NYC in terms of building height. Most of that stuff is really driven by private developers. I don't think the Chicago spire will even get built. Also, the Sears Tower did not need a spire to be taller than the World Trade. It's about 200 feet taller if going by the roof tops.

Anyway, NYC and Chicago are pretty different in character. Chicago does not really feel like a smaller version of NYC.

From my research, the Sears Tower is 1450 feet to the roof and World Trade Center Tower was 1368 feet to the roof. Then they put on a spire and it beat the WTC's spire by 3 feet. Insecurity or what? But the Sears tower was less than 100 feet taller, not about 200 feet taller.

Chicago is so determined to have the tallest building it is almost funny. It is like every time I look over there they are watching every move to the sky NY makes and trying to beat it. And to be fully honest with you, I thought it was sort of disrespectful when the Freedom Tower was announced and then Chicago jumped in with the Spire, especially the Freedom Tower being a testement of strength and coming back even stronger. The joke is on Chicago though, they are the only one playing.

OK, you're correct. It is 100', not 200'.

Sears tower is 1451' (top of roof) + Spire for 1730' total.

World Trade is 1362' & 1368' (top of roof)

But the World Trade "spire" was basically an antenna, not an archectural detail like on the Sears Tower.

It's not like the City of Chicago annouced the Spire as some sort of contest. A developer from Ireland is behind it. Personally I think the spire is ugly, and it will not get built anyway.

Neither have the tallest building. That goes to Dubai.

LIVING I meant. I still have visited each city. I wouldn't visit southern CA now after living in this brutal heat for almost 3 years. Though it isn't as hot as it is in south Florida.

Sorry, I don't believe a word of this. Your post history doesn't go away just because your story changes.
