chicago did indeed invent the skyscraper no need to get into what they're made of..its a fact also i believe chicago had the elevated train (L) before nyc...that.s why i said chicago had the look first lol

thats laughable. The first true skyscrapers, meaning buildings that scraped the sky were the chrysler and the empire state building. The chrysler was the first true skyscraper,an 1000+ footer in the nineteen thirties, and new york was the first true skyscraper city. Also new yorks subway predates chicagos

Skyscraper - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The first skyscraper was for many years thought to be the Home Insurance Building built in Chicago, Illinois in 1885. More recent evidence points to New York's Equitable Life Assurance Building built in 1870 preceding the Chicago building by 15 years and was the first office building built using a skeletal frame."

New York didn't look at Chicago for anything. I would say they both started at the same time but clearly we all know which one really excelled

I didnt say subways the L is the exact opposite...but long story short chicago hasn't patterned itself after nyc..it has a history separate of nyc people..chicago got nothing from nyc as far as what makes it a city lol we don't walk around thinking of nyc

The "L" trains are above ground and elevated off of it and yes chicago had it before nyc...its nonsensical to say that chicago is some little brother trying to compete..that shows a lack of commonsense or fact...take into consideration that chicago isn't a city hurting for exposure, tourism...chicago averages only about 2mil less visitors than nyc annually...so while nyc is NYC lol chicago is CHICAGO and holds its own against new york..if it didn't chicago would be wouldn't be as famous as what it is now.....all of this you can't compare because nyc is in a different dimension mess is so wack lol...use commonsense! some of the samethings newyork is known for chicago is also....
1) wonderful skyline
2) shopping
3) ethnic food pizza/hot dogs
4) architecture
5) fine dining
6) The two biggest producers of NBA talent in the country
7) Music
8) and pretty much most of anything else you can name is present in both cities in some form or fashion

Now of course new york has it in greater quantity but duuh there 8million people vs 2.8million

Chicago is a city that gets easily overlooked. You hardly hear about it. I think it underachieves in that department. Chicago should be more famous than it seems

And if you were to actually compare that list to new york, it would seem that ny eclipses chicago. Saying they are on the same level based off the criteria u listed is misleading. In that case you can compare ny to any city if thats all it takes

I don't know if Chicago is really known for it's shopping, especially compared to New York. Also, I would argue the fact that Philadelphia produces more NBA talent than Chicago. No disrespect to D.Wade lol.

In America it would be Chicago for density, architecture, food, restuarants, subways, elevated trains, night life, and skyline/skyscapers.

America's tallest buildings list
1.Willis Tower,Chicago,IL- 1,451 ft
2.Trump Tower,Chicago,IL- 1,389 ft
3.Empire State Building,NYC,NY-1,250 ft
4.Bank of America Tower,NYC,NY-1,200 ft
5.Aon Center,Chicago,IL - 1,136 ft
6.John Hancock Center,Chicago,IL-1,127 ft

Chicago has 4 of America's top 6 tallest buildings and growing!

Chicago's Willis Tower-1,451 ft (roof height)
NY's Twin Towers(Destroyed)-1,368 ft(roof height)

Chicago Willis Tower will still be taller in roof height over NY's new Freedom Tower.

Chicago's Willis Tower-1,451 ft (roof height)........1,730 ft(antenna/spire height)
NY's new Freedom Tower-1,368 ft (roof height)....1,776 ft(antenna/spire height)

^ Why will the Freedom Tower count its spire height and Chicago Willis Tower doesn't?.....Doesn't matter Chicago's Willis tower is still look taller then the Freedom tower.Nobody looks at the antenna as the highest part of the building.People look at the roof height!

Now the Chicago Spire will blow The Willis Tower,The Empire State Building and the Freedom Tower out of the water!

Chicago Spire,Chicago,IL-2,000 ft (roof height) 150 floors!

And Chicago invented the 1st steel skyscaper thats a fact! And Chicago architects(Skidmore,Owings and Merril) designed the world's tallest building the Burj Kalifa. They also designed NY's Freedom Tower and of course Chicago Sears Tower(America's Tallest Building)!

ps. i've been to NY and NYC has a short skyline the only building that stands out is the Empire State Building, which looks pretty short compared to Chicago's skyscapers, the rest of the buildings look short and anyone who's been to BOTH CITIES knows what i'm saying is true.NY's skyline looks short compared to Chicago's.Based on the average height of the ten tallest completed buildings,Chicago has the tallest skyline in the world.
