I am moving in the next 3 weeks to start work at Love Field. I know nothing about Dallas and would appreciate some guidance. I am mid 30's, single looking for a safe and nice complex possibly near DART line. I am in a wheelchair so I would need a ground floor apartment.
zip codes 75229 and 75209 are the best located and, in general, are nice areas. Best if you stay east of Marsh Ln. in zip 75229. You can search on realtor.com. You can go to DART.org to learn about bus routes and also special pickup services.
I agree with Squirl on this, make sure you follow his stay east of Marsh Ln advice, there are quite a few complexes on the western end of 75229 that are cheap, but you won't feel safe there. Check out the portion of 75209 that is just north of Oaklawn(75219). There are several complexes off Lemmon south of inwood that are brand new, and priced within your range. The apartments along Lemmon would be my choice if I were looking close to love field.
The dart line on that side of town is new so there aren't many complexes right on the line, but there are a few in the works. DART bus stops are located along Lemmon, but getting to the train to love field would hardly be worth it at that point. It's almost as close to get to the airport as it would be to get to the light rail stop.
You might talk to DART Customer Information at 214-979-1111 first. There are a couple of nice places on Northwest Highway and Lovers Lane between Marsh Ln and Midway Rd with one bedrooms under 1,000.
I used to live next to Love Field in a rather new apartment complex.

Everything was clean, safe, and since its paralell to runways, it really not noisy at all. Uptown being on the flight path was 100 times noisier.
