Is RTA planning to get new rail cars for the red line? These cars are 30 years old and need an overhaul. Too many people ride this train for it to be this old and damaged. They have a good portion of them that can't even be put on the tracks. So my question again....is RTA planning to get new rail cars soon?

I'm not an expect, but based off recent budget and bus route cuts, I would guess no new rail cars in the foreseeable future.

The RTA has a seperate budget for Rail Cars, and buses which they get from the government. Haven't you ever noticed how we always get brand new buses every year (Healthline & the articulated #22, #26 buses on the west side) but we never get new rail cars, which cost less to operate than the buses (Diesel fuel vs. Electricity) We just cant use that budget for services its strictly for bus and rail, and construction projects. That is why I'm not understanding the hold up on new rail cars which is weird because more people use rail than buses.

Cleveland has such a great rapid transit system, but the city is too dumb to operate it.

I don't think Calabrese is a fan of rapid transit travel compared to buses

Probably not anytime soon. With the RTA system shrinking in size and cutting budget, replacing operable rail cars with new ones, just because, is out of the question.

Only 30 out of 60 rail cars in stock are operable.

Where did you get that number?

If that's the case, then the next question would be... is there really demand to warrant more than 30?

Cleveland.com and the rail ridership is increasing and is the same if not more than bus ridership.....if you get on the westbound red line train between 12-5 you will be standing up guaranteed, the least they could do is add another rail car to give the rapid three rail cars going at once instead of two. Ridership last year on rail was up between 33 percent to 110 percent so tell me why we still are running only two cars at once?!

^I believe it has more to do with the lengths of the platforms at the stations rather than the ridership.
