I am a 22yr old recent grad and am looking for a fun place to live with entertainment/nightlife. I have read tons of posts about the different pros and cons of the different neighborhood, but was wondering if anyone has an idea of what commute times would look like going to aurora.

Does anyone have an idea of the commute from shaker heights or downtown to aurura? Or have another recommendation all together? I like the idea of shaker heights and the easy access to downtown via public transportation, yet still cut down the commute from actually living downtown. It seems like the commute would be the reverse of the flow of traffic so that might make it more manageable?

Congratulations on your new job and welcome to Cleveland. I am like you, 22 years old and about to finish college here in Cleveland. I could use some more information on what kind of area you would want to live in. Of course I am gonna throw in downtown because you mentioned it and I love it here. You will definitely get the entertainment and nightlife that you are looking for. The commute really wouldn't be that bad either. It would take around 30 minutes and people commute from Aurora to Cleveland all the time. Also, both Cleveland and Aurora are served well by highways. Shaker Heights is a great choice too but it lacks highway access so that might increase your commute. Don't get me wrong, I love Cleveland but one thing I am a big critic of is the public transportation. It really is only good for commuting to work during rush hour and unreliable on nights, during the day, and on weekends and I know this because I ride RTA everyday. Some areas in and around downtown you should check out are the E. 4th area, the Warehouse District, Ohio City, and Tremont. Let me know some more information on what you are looking for and I'm sure I could help point you to the city neighborhood or suburb that best fits you.

Downtown > Aurora is 40 minute minimum.
Shaker > Aurora is 30.

Yes, it is going against traffic and yes, that means traffic is much lighter.
You will hit some congestion at the 271 + 480 split.

You could also look south. Cuyahoga Falls, although a bit "suburbry", has a bit of nightlife and is a stone's throw from Akron proper.
Cuyahoga Falls > Aurora is 30 minutes.

Thanks for the replies! For me a 40-50 min commute wouldn't be an issue at all. I would actually like the alone time to think/listen to the news via podcasts or whatever that might be. If I were to make a list of some things that are important to me it would include easy/fast access to highway(s), within walking distance of nightlife (bars/theaters), if not downtown then reasonbly close to downtown to make it easy to utilize the theatres/sports/etc, safety (don't plan on kids in the near future so not essential, but obv would prefer a safe area over a dangerous one), access to nature (whether thats a park nearby, or close to the waterfront--I like to get out on runs/walks/bike rides), and cost (I'm looking at a budget of about 1000 a month for rent/utilities for a simple one bedroom). Thanks for the help!

Kent is a quick commute - not much of a town but plenty going on at the Univ...

You can get a lot of house for the money in Shaker but taxes are pretty high...

^ True, but the city services are top notch. I never heard of garbage being picked up from the side of house instead you taking it to the curb
