According to GreatSchools, Shaker Heights has good elementary schools but the MS/HS are only slightly above average while Beachwood has good schools from top to bottom.

I lived in Shaker Heights for 8 months due to my husband's job relocating him. We moved to Texas unfortunately. Shaker Heights is a nice community. I miss it sometimes because my son, who was a Kindergarter at the time really enjoyed being in the community and a friendship with a boy who attended the same school and lived a few houses down from the house we rented. It was so much fun doing Halloween to see the lines of kids going house to house trick or treating. Shaker is more affordable than Beachwood. I was quite surprised to learn that there are a few rentals in Shaker that accept section 8 tenants. If you have the money, good like with finding a rental in Beachwood it is a wealthy town compared to Shaker.

Another Cleveland High school that I heard ranks very high, believe it or not, is John Hay...Back in my day, that school was horrible..But now, they test very high there....according to Great Schools.com;

John Hay High School, located in Cleveland, Ohio, serves grades 9-12 in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. It is among the few public high schools in Ohio to receive a distinguished GreatSchools Rating of 9 out of 10.

It's essentially the CMSD honors high school. I think it also uses a "small schools" model.
