two huge reasons why this country is suffering job loss >>> NAFTA + CAFTA. also, im all for business/companies wanting to grow profits, but not at the expense of shipping/shifting work to other countries to do so... seems like alot of "so-called" American companies forgot who made them prosper in the first place.

You're just wrong! The labor consts don't save much money and represent just a small small fraction of the total costs!

milkdrinker, imo cortland girl is right and you are wrong. cheap labor and cost of doing business has everything to do with business/companies moving over-seas. reduced "controlable" and "non-controlable" expenses equals bigger bottom-line profits.

Just because OH isn't a right to work state doesn't mean you can be fired for ANY reason. If you're discriminated against because of race, religion, disability, etc etc, then you've got a nice lawsuit to hand to your former employers.

The cost of doing business in the US is also an issue: taxes, EPA, regulations, etc.

People in right to work states are essentially Mexicans, but at the same time they hate Mexicans. Go figure.

Well, in manufacturing, you have 5 major cost categories: Materials, capital equipment, energy, overhead, and labor. Depending on the industry, it will be roughly in that order. In some industries, labor costs more than overhead. In those instances, companies are much more likely to attempt to decrease their labor costs and a Chinese worker making $0.42/hr with no OT or benefits offers them a hell of a temptation when the average factory worker makes close to $20/hr counting OT and benefits. This is expecially true with commodity-type products like small electronics and light, machined goods that don't require much knowledge to produce.

You can be fired for any reason in an at-will position. You must be terminated for cause to be denied unemployment and the burden of proof for cause lies squarely with the employer. If you feel you were discriminated against, the burden of proof is on you. Btw, there is no such thing as a "nice" lawsuit.
