Cleveland is about to be placed back on the map, seriously... It is a shame that people are SO negative here and do not appreciate the culture, art museums, theaters, Cleveland Orchestra, eclectic & fabulous restaurants, shopping, malls, etc... I've been here for 35 years, and have traveled many places (including Europe). One thing I've learned, is that at the end of the day, its all the same! We have extraordinary things to be proud about, and we don't need anyone else's approval to do so!

Look at all of the initiatives that are currently taking place: The redevelopment of the Flats completely, Stone Bridge Apartment development in the Flats, the new Aquarium, the Skate Park that's coming, the Rowing Facility, the new Lake Link Trail they're creating in the Flats, the new Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), the new Inner Belt Bridge they're developing, 2 casinos, even more fabulous restaurants, Cleveland Clinic Medical Mart, the Uptown Plaza that's in the University area, and SO MUCH MORE that is currently under construction. We are the Mecca of the medical industry folks...

People, let's start being excited & positive about the new developments and changes that are about to come our way. Cleveland will be operating 24 hrs a day, which means more revenue, even more entertainments and jobs. You'd be surprised how people move here, and they LOVE Cleveland. They honestly can't understand the negative mind-sets of people here! Stop being negative and do something about it, or just leave. Cleveland is about to blow up! At least people are investing in our great city to make it even more magnificant!

I bet you negative people didn't know that Monster.com rated Cleveland number 7 hottest job market in the nation (in IT and Medical). That's a good thing. This tell me that Cleveland plays a vital role in innovation & technology, as well as in the medical industry. The Travel and Leisure Magazine rated Cleveland number 4th as the most visionary city in the world for its innovation in urban living...

Cleveland is about to become even more incredible! Let's stop talking about what other folks are doing, and focus on our own thing!

There does seem to be some negativity among the folks there; I guess they've never lived anywhere else and believe the press/media reports about Cleveland. However, I sensed some real optimism when I was there and there does seem to be a constuction boom going on (in this economy, that says alot). I especially liked the University Circle/Little Italy areas.

Default Gov. Kasich's vs. Cleveland & Cincinnati Casino Developments

Did anyone read the article this morning on Gov. Kasich's opinion on Ohio getting a bad deal on these casinos? I don't want anything to slow up progress.

Kasich is a bum PERIOD he has no interest in supporting the big cities (especially Cleveland) except maybe Columbus. An example would be him cutting the budget of Cleveland by $12.5 million dollars, not being willing to give state support for future projects, taking the mental hospital from Cleveland and giving it to a suburb IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE!!! and now trying to tax the casino's now even more even though the tax rate is one of the highest in the country. (33 percent) Taxing more will slow the casino progress down and could mean less jobs.

This guy is a complete idiot who has no idea what he is doing and needs to be recalled. Don't even get me started on SB-5 which is just an unfair treatment of public workers. Also to all of those people who will say "Well he kept American Greetings, and Diebold here" Big deal I mean it's great he did but that didn't take much creativity all he did was throw money at them. How about thinking of different ways to bring jobs to Ohio like you said in your campaign. Wow what a complete and utter loser way worse than Bob Taft glad I didn't vote for him!

Loading up on "sin" taxes is an Ohio tradition. That's how the Jake was built. Notice how the gaming consultant didn't draw any correlation between tax levels and profits? That's because there is none. They'll just tighten up the payouts a bit if they have to, problem solved.

If those cities are too large for you, you're going to have to settle for a smaller city, and also - much less efficient or expansive public transportation as a result.

Angry Cincinnati Casino...

I sure hope this doesn't happen here in Cleveland (see link below)... Kasich is something else. Basically, the casino in Cincinnati will be delayed another year. They're not expected to open until 2013...

Let me preface this by saying I actually like Cleveland. With that said...

Cleveland is filled with so many negative people because:

1. Pretty bad winter.
2. Unemployment, specifically middle class unemployment
3. National stigma.
4. Sports teams.
5. Eastside looks like Baghdad. Parts of the westside aren't much better.
6. Horrible racial issues, with black on black/black on white violence both at disproportionate highs to the rest of the country.
7. Probably the worst school system in the country.
8. Possibly the most corrupt political element in the country's history. Plus issues with other public bodies (think water dpt, sewage...)
9. Unending brain drain; so many people keep moving away.
10. Above average tax rates with below average property values.
11. Sprawled, decentralized city without a legitimate core.
12. Suburbia mess.
13. Until recently with several major downtown projects, a complete lack of momentum.
14. Crime issues, especially in the eastside. You think this crap happens in Portland???
