Hey guys,

It looks like I'll be moving in around late June to Cleveland, OH. Quite a different area for me. I think I would like to rent an apartment/loft near Case Western/Cleveland Clinic if that's possible. I read some posts and I was looking at LIVECleveland.com to get a rough idea..

Any recommendations on great/safe places to live? What's the rough rent $?

Thanks a bunch! ;]

Nice post title.
lol
Welcome to the North Coast. Where are you coming from?

I am not the resident east side expert so I will not comment. Someone should be along shortly.

You should live right next door tho those "Hot in Cleveland" chicks, they seem like a fun crew to hang out with....wait waht do you mean it's not a reality show? I thought eveything on TV was a reality show now!

I'm from NYC and have been saving up for relocating myself, and besides the typical places (Austin,TX, San Diego,CA and Pittsburgh,PA) I also have Cleveland on my list. I am an underdog type guy, and right now Cleveland is IMO a prime "buy low" place, where it can and should be able to rebound (much like Pitt has) and it's public reputation has held it down far more then it should be....Brian Michael Bendis,Harvey Pekar,Howard the Duck, Michael Simon & Lebr...oh I won't go there...all call or have called it home at one time or another, so that makes CLE cool in my book.

Is CLE a good place for those without a car? right now I am looking at the Gateway district, I have heard about The Rapid, and I am not expecting it to be like the MTA here in NYC, how reliable is it? how often does it run? is there a good amount of ridership and safe (as far as there are not wild gang fights daily, and during peak hours you will more or less be fine)

Is Gateway a good area for day to day needs for those without a car? meaning I can buy food and such without needing to go 10 neighboorhoods over, even if I had to take a bus or the Rapid a few stops it would not be a big deal, but within walking distance would be ideal.

I also plan on going to a few Indians games, may even get season tickets...if I can get my hands on those hard to come by ducets

I'd be working from home so work commute is not an issue....

oh crap, I just totally hijacked someone elses thread, my bad...I'll be going away now...my humble apologies, I will repost this as it's own thread now...

BTW Indians over Mets in the 2011 World Series!

Population +2!

Scotty--

Great post.

I've live without a car, but I live walking distance from the intersection of the Redline rapid and Healthline BRT. Gateway District has access to Tower City (3 rapids) and the Healthline...as well as all buses. These all run about ever 10-15 min...middle of the night, every 30 min.

Progressive Field is in Gateway ...Indians tickets should be fairy easy.

There are a few grocery stores Downtown...including at Cleveland State, W. 9th (Constantino's Market), and E. 13.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

BTW...I'm a huge fan of Harvey Pekar.

As far as general areas, I would say stay in this realm:

Little Italy
Coventry (Cleveland Hts)
Cedar-Fairmount (Cleveland Hts)
Cedar-Lee (Cleveland Hts)
Shaker Square
Shaker Hts
University Circle
