Right now I'm currently looking to go to CSU but I wanted to know about the area it's in. And is it cheap or expensive? Does it offer housing for students? Any info would help me make my decision. Thanks.

CSU is right in downtown Cleveland. However, Euclid Avenue is in the midst of a major infrastructure redo...which means the area is a mess right now Once they're done with this, I think it will be very nice.

Welcome to The Euclid Corridor Transportation Project

There is some student housing on campus but not much in the surrounding neighborhoods. CSU has primarily been a communter school. The closet reasonable area would be the growing Asiatown.

AsiaTown Cleveland

However, Cleveland Hts., Little Italy, Lakewood are all within reasonable distance(20 minutes) and have access to public transportation.

Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority

I prefer Lakewood. It's 10 minutes by car to CSU, has great freeway access, is close to the lake, has some decent little shops and restaurants and is reasonably affordable.

CSU is relatively affordable. I don't know your situation but there are grants, financial aid etc... as well.

I graduated from CSU last year. They do have limited student housing; I never knew anyone who lived there though as it's primarily a commuter school. As the previous poster said, the Euclid Corridor has turned traffic into an absolute nightmare. I don't think it's a particularly safe area and it's certainly overpriced. The CSU ID allows you to take Cleveland's public transport for free (except in summer) and you could find a nice place by the Shoreway for around $400/month (with heat) and ride the 55X for 15 minutes right to school. Tuition is competitively priced and you can get many of the textbooks thru the university's interlibrary loan.

CSU is not that expensive it should be affordable to most people. i think it does have limited student housing. The area to the south East of CSU is all public housing projects so its not too good of a area. There are a lot of good areas within 15 minutes of CSU.

Cleveland State University is a wonderful school. I just graduate! A lot of their programs are nationally ranked, specifically their Urban Studies Programs. While a commuter school, the housing on campus is fun!! I would suggest living in Fenn Tower (more like apartment living) over Viking Hall. There some nice apartments that are within walking distance to CSU specifically located on W 6 St. It is close to major shopping centers as well....

A great location to around Columbus that has great schools and is afforable for middleclass is Westerville :-). It is near the city but far enough removed. It has nice grocery stores, great parks, and you can let your kids ride their bikes around town. Westerville :-)

CSU has come a long way from my time there in the early 90s.

The campus is much nicer. It's great to drive by and see it now! No more "cement state university".Moderator cut: advertising
