Any elementary teachers here? I am curious about salary schedules in Lakewood and surrounding areas. I emailed a few Districts, but no response.

Currently, I am in another state and am on year 20 with a Masters.

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks!

I wonder if you could search the school board minutes that should be publicly posted online. Rocky River just ratified their contract so you should have a recent posting to look at.

A lot of times you can find these listed online if you simply search the "school district name" and "salary schedule."

Here's Lakewood's contract:

http://www.serb.ohio.gov/sections/re...ED-01-0025.pdf

The salary schedule is buried in there somewhere but I can't find exactly where.

My wife is a elementary teacher and tells me you'd most likely be "too expensive" for Lakewood hiring...I hate to report. She recommends looking into Rocky River (possibly Bay Village).

LOL! I grossed 84K this year. However, the cost of living here is MUCH higher than Lakewood. I could make less money and live more comfortably in Lakewood. I also have a textile business to supplement my income.

I know most Districts allow 3-5 years of service credit so it would be a hit, but then again, my home price would be 80% less than what I have here. Heck, if I sold my home here, I could buy with cash there. Your YMCA is half the monthly cost of our Y, and more than a few other amenities are similar.

As I told my wife, "Working 7 days per week allows us to pay bills here, but being 6 ft. under doesn't allow a lot of free time. Why stress on bill paying when you can't enjoy surfing, golf, etc? Let's go near my cousins, see the Browns play, keep our kids in good schools (Lacrosse, AP, Mock Trial, etc) and work less and enjoy more!"

Thank you for the input!!!

I agree with you 100% which is why we, much to my families chagrin, may never move back to CA.

Please share if you will- what does your family miss? What do you like besides cost of living?

How would one go about talking their CA wife into moving?

The bummer is that the year in Centerville left a bad taste, but I know that Lakewood is different!!!

I was actually playing the Ramones once in my car and a family had their children turn their backs to me. I thought, "Oh, boy, this is ol' school city."

FYI: My great-grandparents built their home in Chagrin Falls, my mom was a Browns cheerleader during the 50's, and she is a Brush High grade.

Well, we moved back after a 2 year stint in Nashville. (Yes, we chose o move
back to Cleveland) When we moved back, I was struck by how cynical and cautious people are towards new folks. There aren't many transplant here so people really don't extend as open of arms, even though they know you are new and without a community, it just doesn't really occur to them. In Nashville, people are extremely hospitable but most of the social outings revolved around church, which wasn't our thing.

The thing we miss most about California is the weather. Other than that, it really wasn't much of difficult transition. Living in CA, I always dreamed of living in a small, walkable community like Alameda, Ca and here, in Rocky River, I am literally living that dream. We have it really, really good and in CA we went bankrupt living in the hood. People are extremely smart and work extremely hard here. You just have to work hard at building your network of friends.
If you already know people here, you will be fine.

Comparing Centerville and the Cleveland Area is like comparing the deep south to New York City. In attitude, progression and just about everything else, the 2 are diametrically opposed.
