I am a young professional relocating from Tampa to Cleveland in October. I like living in the downtown area here and would like the same in Cleveland. I'm not sure How the Cleveland downtown compares to Tampa/St. Petersburg downtowns?

Is there a nice, safe place to live downtown? I'd be looking for an apartment at or under 1,000 monthly. If not, what is closest to downtown you'd recommend?

Thanks

^you might get lucky and be able to find a decent one bedroom for $1,000 downtown, but its a very tight market right now. If you can't, look into Tremont, Ohio City, and Detroit-Shoreway. All are very cool neighborhoods 5min or less to downtown by bike, train, or car.

Thanks, Is downtown a safe place to live as far as crime? Are there any areas to avoid?

Downtown is VERY safe. Cops are all over, esp with more people carrying $$ since the casino opened. Also, the Downtown Cleveland Alliance's Goodwill Ambassadors (in the bright yellow shirts) also patrols the streets, on foot or bikes, and have arresting authority. And with more foot traffic on streets, there's more of an air of safety... Of course as in any big city, you shouldn't do foolish things at night, like taking shortcuts through alleys, but crime-wise, you'll have little to worry about downtown.

I can't think of a place that isn't safe downtown. Look into these places below. They're all I could find in your price range that are available. If you have a car add in another $85 - $125 a month for parking...Good luck with the move!

Safer than where you live now, probably. Downtown is also undergoing a large amount of development/redevelopment. Get in while you can... that is, if you can.
