Was talking to someone who got furious (and I mean FURIOUS) over someone else calling Brunswick as "Brunstucky." I guess she grew up there.
I personally think it's pretty funny but this yuppie psycho soccer mom was absolutely livid.
I know it has changed over the years, but people need to lighten up a bit when their town has a long-lasting reputation as being kind of backwater and hillbilly, especially if they've been trying to give their town some kind of upscale extreme makeover. Brunswick has grown exponentially in the last decades (not all in a good way) but a lot of that old reputation has stuck bigtime.
North Ridgeville, and perhaps Medina, have similar reps from what I've heard.

I'd choose hillbilly over soccer mom anyday.

I never really heard about it that way though I never much bought into stereotypes anyways. I thought of it more as a west side Mentor, and then Medina being sort of a not quite as wealthy version of Chagrin Falls with it's downtown on the East Side and some New England charm present.

Right, especially those with the ''My Child is or does this or that....'' bumperstickers on their SUVs or minivans.

Back in the day, Brunswick was considered to be the boonies which is how the subject nickname originated. Today, not so much but this soccer mom can't handle Brunswick's old reputation.

Brunstucky! Ah yes, my old stomping grounds. I used to call it that myself, even though it really wasn't the boonies! As did most of us! I honestly miss it, though the population has indeed exploded quite a bit, and is almost too crowded now. Tell the soccer mom to embrace the nickname, and grow thicker skin, because most of us who lived there called it that, and laughed when others referenced it as such as well.

Anyway, being older now, the further away I want to get from people. So while I do indeed still enjoy the urban vibe from time to time in heading downtown, as for places to live, I'll settle for the seclusion and semi-rural areas of Medina County over that of any inner-ring suburb like Parma, Lakewood, or Mayfield, and being crowded together and heavily congested any day!

In California you have Bakersfield (God's armpit) and Washington has Vancouver (Vantucky). Where we live, any home that is in decay is considered, "Welcome to Bakersfield." Yeah, pretty rude, but you can't go there without getting a respiratory illness due to pollution. Every state has its share of "tuckies"

Brunswick is jealous that it's not Strongsville.

Quite a few "hillbilly" types that I knew growing up on Cleveland's West Side ended up in places like Brunswick, North Ridgeville, Sheffield Lake, and even Mentor when they decided it was time to move to the suburbs. Their top priority was to have a suburban house and environment without paying Cuyahoga County prices/taxes.

They had quite different priorities than the yuppie/soccer mom types who bought in Strongsville, Westlake, and so forth. An entirely different mentality going on.

This fascinates me!

When we lived in TN, we ended up in a development of McMansions that was plopped in a rural farm
town. It was really bizarre. We were in the country, yet not. I can't explain it. If we ever moved to the country again, I'd do it differently by choosing a piece of land that wasn't trying to mimic suburbia.
