Any advice on this lakeside hamlet? My wife wants to buy a house on the lake there and I'm on the fence. Lakefront homes are much more affordable here, but it's also a little far out. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Sheffield Lake is a fairly quiet decent neighborhood. I sent you a private message with a little more about it.

If the OP's screen name is a Naughty by Nature reference I just wanted to say I laughed heartily. If not, it should be.

It's okay but Sheffield is where the affluent Lorain County burbs (Avon Lake, Avon) meet the run-down Lorain County cities (Lorain/Elyria).

You'll be fine if you move there but it's cheaper because it's not as nice as other lakefront towns.

If you're commuting to the city or anywhere along the west shore, it's little out there but not horribly so. The biggest pain is if you want to go to any of the southern towns like Strongsville or Akron.

Are they still doing the car shows at Quaker Steak in Sheffield? I use to go there all the time. Their wings made BW3 wings taste like cardboard.

I looked up several houses in Sheffield Lake and they were all in flood zones. Is this a problem for spots within the city, or a more wide-spread issue? How much does flood insurance cost?

If they are in flood zones then I would walk. Even if you can get them insured, why deal with the hassle in the event of a flood?

The only way I'd move there is if the house was on the Lake, not in a flood zone and practically on the Avon Lake border. I'd prefer Avon Lake, but lakefront housing there is out of the budget.
