After today, I just shake my head. At the play calling, at the "ball control", at the kicking game, at the Rex Ryan-like high energy defense that brings the house and gets burned the majority of the time. At the lack of tackling, at the dropped passes and penalties, all of it.
And also what I seem to see every year has happened again: another mid-game benching of a QB followed by incessant TV cutaway shots of the "benchee's" reactions or TV-aware non-reactions after every positive play or extended drive the new QB pulls off.
Loved the fact that the Haslams have shown patience with Hue and the system, because it was always quick firings before. And Hue has said largely all of the right things and lord knows he's been a great ambassador for the city and team. But at this point, and I can't believe I'm saying this, blowing it up yet again might not be a bad option. This whole year was supposed to be a step forward. I've seen nothing in 5 games to make me believe that it is indeed progressing. At all. There's probably no one better to plug in as a head coach but these five games (against 5 flat opponents that might have been playing down because they were playing the Browns) have been awful. Capped by the 4th and short play where we didn't go for a chip shot FG. After he missed two, I know.
I am never "that fan" where I wanted heads to roll after every loss but today it's hard not to be. And I know that we still just don't have the horses to compete against the Pittsburghs and New Englands of the world. All of this season has been a failed experiment. And after the fool's gold of an undefeated pre-season, I thought we'd at least win a few. And now the schedule gets tough.
Arrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggh!

It was the only game I will see here in CLE this year...flew in from CA. I got my first ticket in the Dog Pound. The mistakes and missed opportunities equaled what I've seen on TV this year. Turnovers INSIDE the 10 yard line. I have never seen anything like it.

It was just odd. Everyone around me was just shaking their heads. I kept looking at the stats and scratching me head. At one point they had 100 yards late in the 2nd half and we had over 300 with 1 touchdown. TOPossession was a 2:1 margin in our favor.

You just can't do what we do... turnovers and missed FG's. At half, I was thinking that we should have been up 20+ to 3.

Then the Indians lose 1-0 and Tomlin pitches tomorrow and the Monsters lost 4-0. Maybe I'm bad luck?

If Hue Jackson has guided the Browns' QB draft evaluations for the last two years, he's been one of the biggest disasters in Browns' history.

In this year's draft, the Browns traded the No. 12 Deshuan Watson pick to Houston and the year before they traded the Carson Wentz pick to Philadelphia. Watson and Wentz now are ranked 1 and 3 in the NFL total QB rankings.

NFL Total Quarterback Rating - National Football League - ESPN

As advertised, Kizer is neither an accurate passer nor able to run through his receiver progression quickly, perhaps not surprising given his experience at Notre Dame. And the Browns, unlike the rest its fan base until this fall, knew that Kizer has a migraine problem.

It's unlikely anybody in the future will believe that Hue Jackson is a "quarterback whisperer" or good judge of QB talent. And the rest of the Browns' draft trust either deferred to Jackson's alleged QB expertise, or were just poor evaluators of NFL QB talent.

Hue Jackson abandons hope by benching DeShone Kizer: Doug Lesmerises | cleveland.com

The Browns this year likely will spend a top draft choice on a QB, but will need luck to best the options that they passed on the last two years.

We won't even discuss the equally pathetic acquisition of receiver talent.

Again, apparently with Jackson's enthusiasm, the Browns picked Corey Coleman with the 15th pick in the 2016 draft, passing on Michael Thomas who went with the 47th pick. Coleman hasn't been able to stay healthy in his two seasons with the Browns.

Not a Hue Jackson fan.

Can't speak for the Monsters, but the Indians and especially the Browns outcomes weren't shocking IMO.

Did you go to the Monsters game or hit a sports bar for the Indians' game? If the latter, where did you go and what was your experience?

I went across the street to The Corner Alley. I had a great seat (small table) facing 4 screens. 4 of which were the Indians game. My server was very good and knew I was there just to see the game so she came by every 15 min. asking if I needed anything...she noticed I was the only one there drinking ice tea, so she just brought me a pitcher.

They lost their feed from Direct TV in the 7th inning so I watched the remainder of the game from my hotel room.

Yes, went to Monsters game. I'll see another one the weekend of Dec. 9th.

They are not as bad as many people think. Looking only at their record the last 20 games you would think they were horrid.

Not really so, they have come very close in a number of those games. Not a browns fan. But the tide will turn.

Guys, lifelong Raider fan now living in the CLE. The Raiders have been a living hell for over a decade since the infamous Tuck Bowl game, and only recently have things turned around. So I can relate to the angst of Browns fans.

First off, Hue. Hue was the Raiders HC when Al Davis died, and convinced Mark Davis that an in-season trade for the Bengals' 'I'm-sitting-out-this-season" Carson Palmer for two 1st-rd picks was the right thing to do. Never mind that Carson Palmer hasn't played a competitive game nor attended practices/training camp for almost a year. Mike Brown fleeced the Raiders, thanks, to Hue, and the Raiders were in draft hell because of this dumb move. So no, I have no faith in Hue, he's only out for himself.

Next off, draft picks. The Raiders hired Reggie McKenzie and their ethos was to rebuild through the draft. Three years in his tenure, the Raiders were still putrid, and everyone in the media advocated for a change. Had Mark Davis not believed in his vision, they would have been unable to rebuild through the draft, and get studs such as Khalil Mack, Derek Carr, etc.

The way it was explained to me is that, on average, you have to be able to draft, 4 starters each year, and hopefully draft 1 other player as a reserve/specialist, your kicker, punter, gunner, snapper, etc. At the end of 4 years, you should have been able to draft 16 starters, and ready to extend your studs' contracts to their physical peak at around 27 y.o., +/- 1 year.

This is how the Raiders were able to rebuild even after Hue, to save his own a$$, sold the farm. Had Mark Davis listened to media knuckleheads and not given Reggie the time he needed to rebuild through the draft, the Raiders would have a worse reputation that the Browns. It took at least 4 long years, and the Raiders are back to respectability.

The way I look at it, the Browns said that they will build through the draft, and they are. This is a process folks. I don't know anything about Sushi and his cohort, but you gotta give them time. Jimmy Hustler didn't make his billion$ by being dumb, he'll give Sushi time to rebuild the team through the draft. The process will take time folks. Believe in the process, and not some ditzy blonde from the Pain Dealer wistfully pining that Sushi should have done this, and not that.

Haslam's management of the Browns has been putrid, by his own admission.

Pilot Corporation was founded by Haslam's father. The expensive price gouging scandal happened on Haslam's watch, and perhaps resulted in the sale of an eventual majority stake in Pilot Flying J to Berkshire Hathaway.

So far, several of the Browns top first and second round picks in the last two years, as noted in an earlier post, seem relatively deficient, especially the QB picks IMO. Last year's draft, with the exception of Kizer, and ignoring the apparently bad decision to take a pass on Watson, seems much better than other recent drafts, yet passing on Deshuan Watson may go down as one of the worst draft trades in NFL history.

If anything, the Browns coverage of Haslam and the Browns has been relatively supportive IMO. Cabot has been more prescient than some of her PD sports dept. colleagues, such as Terry Pluto, who liked the Johnny Manziel pick, an obvious waste at the time it was made to anybody with half of a football brain. The Manziel pick makes me wonder about Haslam's football acumen.

However, I don't think Haslam is dumb. Eventually he'll figure it out, but it may be too late if he somehow has destroyed the Browns' almost indestructible fan base.
