I had never heard of some of the sillier things for which Cleveland allegedly had a reputation until I moved here. Heck, I had a somewhat of a reputation too a whole lot of years ago. But now, who cares about either of those? Nobody that’s who. Nobody’s judging either one of us. Today is today.

When I travel to Toronto to visit family and I’m introduced as the “Sister from Cleveland” I am met with, “Nice city,” or “How is it there?”

Same when I go to West VA visiting friends and meet friends of friends for the first time.

Never once have I been greater with a cliche.

I am surprised to hear that some areas in Cleveland are becoming so expensive. I guess that means people are becoming successful. I just hope that affordable neighborhoods will not be swallowed up in the process. I don’t want to live through or see anyone else living that nightmare ever again. That would be the one and only thing that would ever disappoint me about moving to Cleveland if it ever happened here.

Cleveland has nothing but affordable neighborhoods save for chunks of several near west side neighborhoods, downtown, and limited new construction in University Circle/Little Italy. The city population has dropped to 385,000 and the blue collar west side neighborhoods are aging rapidly, which will depress home prices. I wouldn't worry about affordable housing; 90 odd percent of the city is just that.

Purely on price, you're definitely correct. You could argue that there may be a danger of running out of affordable and desirable homes and neighborhoods. Not necessarily prestigious, but just places that most people would find acceptable to live.

Came across this video in another forum of basketball player Joakim Noah saying "Cleveland is depressing". Worse is the comment section. CLE does suffer a poor reputation, regardless of what few in here proclaim.

Sadly, "affordable" in Cleveland usually means living among riffraff.

^Not in my experience. I lived last summer in a 1-BR unit in one of those old walk-up buildings on Lake near 117th in Lakewood. Rent was $560/month, but I had zero issues with cleanliness, neighbors, etc. -- one of my neighbors was a very cute young lady from Hudson (!). Maybe she thought I was the riffraff?

If you don't see the riffraff you are the riffraff

Jk there actually are some good affordable areas in Cleveland, no doubt about it.

A very distinguished actor I know lives in that area. I’ll have to ask him whether he considers himself “riff” or “raff.”

That is a nice area. For that price in Chicago, where I live now, you live *under* the riffraff.

OK, but just so you know... those $560 rents are becoming harder and harder to find in that area. From what I've been seeing, housing prices in/near Lakewood are going up fast. Many of those old buildings are being upgraded, and are commanding higher prices.
