Yeah, I've been reading tons of articles online about that stuff. Despite all that, however, it appears that there are plenty of people who will pay enormous amounts of money to live there. So the city must have something or other going for it.

Don't get me wrong. SF has beautiful natural landscapes and there is a lot going on in the city. The presence of the tech industry and the high paying jobs is part of why people still choose to come here. Also limited land, opposition to building new residences, rent control, and Chinese investors parking their money in real estate also drives up the cost.

San Francisco COULD be a great city again but the government and apathy have let it slip into decay. The refusal to even address serious problems have led to the conditions in many parts of the city. Not all of the city is terrible (the western half seems to fare better) but it is generally very dirty and dangerous. There have been outbreaks of Hepatitis A in some areas due to unsanitary conditions.

Contrast this to Cleveland which seems to be rising whereas SF is falling. I still love CLE!

If you don't want someone to talk to you then ignore them. They just want to have a small conversation with you not get inside your head lol. As for a city that knows how to act some people like in your beloved Chicago can be rude and bump into you and not even say "Excuse me." Niceness is all subjective sometimes it could be conversation sometimes it could be helping out someone in need. I say there should be balance, everyone shouldn't come talking to you but everyone shouldn't be so self-absorbed that they can't talk to anyone either. You should know by now Clevelanders like to talk.

I'm not a particularly loquacious person by any means. But I don't mind the way people will talk to you in Cleveland. It's a sign that others understand that they aren't the only people who matter (or even exist!). You can go days/weeks in my current location without anyone as much as smiling at you.

I rather live in Cleveland than SF or LA. California drives me crazy with their politicians I am a liberal but not leftist.

Oh, please. I get that in Cleveland too nowadays. It didn't use to be that way here. I'm left wondering what the heck happened to Clevelanders' manners.

(BTW... If you're getting bumped into in Chicago more often than rarely, it's because you're not fitting into the city's rhythm. I became pretty expert at dodging that sort of thing.)

I truly hate to get into politics here... but IMO San Francisco's problems are largely due to radical leftism run amok. A city can lean liberal yet still remain more grounded than that.

Same thing happening in Seattle. We had SJWs on the city council and ideologues running things. The extreme liberals couldn't seem to understand why their idealism didn't equate to a utopia for everyone. Unchecked liberalism is IMO a disaster for cities. Cleveland doesn't seem to have that problem.

You're not wrong. Just like everything else in this universe, a healthy balance of things is the way to go. Go too liberal and you get San Francisco. Go too conservative and you get Kansas.

Well said Ohio is a good balance of both, most of the liberals in Ohio vote DEM because of pro union stances like NYC, Philly and Boston and they are not far leftists like in California. Cleveland is socially liberal but nothing like SF and LA. Even NYC is not as socially liberal as California. California is an amazing place but has too many social issues, more sad and depressing than anything because they could improve their cost of living for the poor if they tried like NYC did.
