Hi y'all
I'm moving from Atlanta to either Highland Heights or Eastlake (found houses I like in both) I have 3 school age daughters and I know Mayfield schools are highly rated. I'm decently familiar with Mayfield because my finance's mom lives there but I'm not at all familiar with Eastlake.
Can anyone give me any helpful information? My oldest daughter would attend North High. I'm considering a house on East 332nd St. Is it safe? Close to shopping, etc? My fiance isn't much help his family are all in Chagrin Falls and Mayfield. Chagrin isn't feasible financially.
I'm worried about the public schools in particular and overall feeling of safety. I like the house in Eastlake the best but I'm worried about what I mentioned above. Also, are people friendly there? I've never lived anywhere but Atlanta and I'm so nervous about picking the wrong place haha

Here's a couple of streets over in Eastlake. This kind of stuff tends to happen in the area around Vine Street.

Not knowing exactly where this happened, it hardly characterizes Eastlake as a whole. There are some lower-end apartment complexes off Vine St. Notice that this was not a crime committed by a stranger.

Check out demographics here:

You can check out individual schools at greatschools.org.

Eastlake residents have significant retail availability -- Shoregate Shopping Center on Vine St., significant retail including a Super Wal-Mart on Vine St., and a short drive down Vine St./Rt. 20 to the Great Lakes Mall and Mentor mega-retail complex, the sixth largest retail center in Ohio.

Eastlake is still burdened by the political scandal and expense of building Classic Park, a minor league baseball stadium, a political fiasco that has slashed city services and alienated voters.

<<"Whoever follows in office after DiLiberto is always under suspicion. Every time I go out with City Council and try to get a levy passed to help the city, we're told by the citizens, 'The stadium is your problem. We believed what DiLiberto said about the stadium not costing the taxpayers a dime. How can we believe that you, in fact, need more money?' '' >>

Midway through Classic Park's 10th season: Was it worth it? (with video, document, timeline, slideshow)

Court ruling to keep stadium issue off ballot

Eastlake receives lower bond credit rating

Personally, I always thought that projects such as Eastlake's "Boulevard of 500 Flags" and Classic Stadium reflected a very distorted set of priorities that I haven't seen in other communities. However, I sometimes think that Eastlake's financial woes and bad decisions are very reflective of our nation's priorities and bad policy decisions, and with the election of Donald Trump, with the same voter alienation and consequences.

Willoughby, widely discussed in this forum, would be a preferable choice IMO. Willoughby South HS and Eastlake North are part of the same school district, but I believe South is ranked higher. I know a family that lived in Eastlake who some how sent their daughters to South, but I don't know how that happened. You might want to check out that possibility.

FWIW, I've noticed that WRNative is no longer active on the forum; therefore, he may not see nor respond to your comment.

Did you ever move to Eastlake? (1 post, I know it's a long shot)

For anyone these days considering it:

Those streets between vine and lakeshore aren't as nice as they used to be, but they just rebuilt the high school. It's still much more safer that Euclid. Look for a home in the Surfside development near the marina rather than a location off vine street. I don't think they are much more expensive, but I could be wrong. Your younger daughters can attend eastlake middle school or thomas jefferson elementry, which is right by the Surfside development. Plenty of school buses run from North High to Surfside.

As for Willoughby and South High, that would be a better choice as far as high school is concerned. Middle and elementary I think surf side would be convenient because it's filled with kids that go to those schools and would be a good place to raise your younger daughters. I'd avoid Eastlake Walmart when you have Target in Willoughby. You can check out the surfside facebook group for much better, accurate answers about things happening in Eastlake.

I like the Surfside area. I bike through there during the summers sometimes and grab a beer at the Deck Lounge in the marina. My mom used to teach at Jefferson for a few years.
