My grandparents had an apple and pear tree. My grandfather grafted an apple branch onto their pear tree, and it worked -- tree produced both fruit. Many years later, my grandmother added a peach tree to her wonderful garden.

Most popular fruit trees would be: Apple, Peach, Plum and Pear. My favorites are the Redhaven Peach when it comes due in August. Another favorite is the Mutsu Apple in October. Other favorites are the Paw Paw, but this is more popular in the southern part of the state. Check out https://www.ohiopawpawfest.com/ if interested. Paw Paws do grow naturally in the Cleveland area, mainly in low-land ravines near the river/creek.
Some favorite orchards: https://www.eddyfruitfarm.com/ and https://rittmanorchards.com/
The fresh apple cider this time of year is amazing.

We had a pear tree in my yard as a kid in Mentor. We would wait for the pears to ripen and get mushy and then would have neighborhood pear fights. Good times.

Pretty much anything other than citrus and palm fruits will do well here. The most popular are apple, pear, plum and cherry. I have apple, cherry, peach and plum. They all produce very well with proper care.

We did the same with a few apple trees at my folks house in Mentor. We used to pick up the fallen, rotting apples and chuck them back at the trees to watch them explode. This invariably would really tick off the yellow jackets feeding on the apples resulting in several bee stings every summer.

The devil on my shoulder always made me throw those darn apples even though I knew there was a price to pay.

Cool!!! what kind of cherries trees and apples? One person told me that she avoided to put fruit trees in her large yard because she did not want to have fruit flies. Are they a problem?

In my experience, the fruit flies are not a problem, but like one poster noted above, its the yellow jackets. They seem to just love rotting apples and pears.

When I was young a friend had a cherry tree growing in his yard, we got sick eating them - that's a compliment to how good they were and the quantity we ate. I don't see many locally grown cherry trees but I know they exist.

For common apple varieties, this may be of interest: https://ohioline.osu.edu/factsheet/hyg-1401
