Like someone else mentioned, if things like jobs, taxes, and family weren't issues, most people would flock to Hawaii, the Caribbean, coastal Mexico, and other places where the weather is gorgeous 365 days a year.
Agreed. I don't think my spouse or other folks I know would have a problem considering moving to Cleveland if they received a job opportunity here or some similar motivating factor... (and moving, period, usually requires some motivating factor) ...that is unless they run into this forum while contemplating the move :P (If I'd never stepped foot in Cleveland and this forum gave my only impression, I would think it was the most unsafe city in the country. )

Yeah, I have noticed that too and and partly guilty of that. However, its not just this forum that gives people that impression. All over the newspapers and reports they always give Cleveland a bad name, its in the same negative position as Detroit. Its been going on for years though, ever since Cleveland had the mafia, it was the murder capital, the river caught on fire, bad sports, gangs all of that. For example a few days ago I went on comparing to Cleveland to other cities from reports I could find. As far as the bad reports Cleveland was always in the top 10. It was top 10 in Pollution, CO2 emissions, poverty, Lowest educated/high dropout rates, Crime, Gang presence, tortured sports cities, unemployment, foreclosures. If I was looking for a good place to live, didnt know much about Cleveland, and saw those reports I wouldnt even consider moving to Cleveland.

What we have to do is put Cleveland in a more positive light, but its hard to do that with the reports and of course we have to be realistic. Even with all of those negatives I still love Cleveland, because I grew up around here and I actually know the truth about it so this will always be my home. Despite what negative things people say, Cleveland is nowhere near as bad as some people make it out to be. Not to mention most of those reports are only for the city itself. Of course youve got East Cleveland, and bad areas in Elyria and Lorain, but other than those few areas the majority of the Cleveland area is a great place to live.

I moved to Sh*ttsburgh.
I'm originally from Buffalo, NY and when we moved from Arizona, we had the choice to move to either Cleveland or Sh*ttsburgh.
My husband choose Sh*ttsburgh.
Well, to make a long story short, I absolutely hate it.
I was wondering if it's just me, or are the people there as big of jerks as I have seen? I even tried conversing with people on the Pittsburgh forum, but every time I said anything remotely negative, the people freaked out.
Is that normal? Is it just my imagination? How does one handle this place? Has anyone who lives in Cleveland ever lived in Pittsburgh? Is everyone like this? We even had to take our daughter out of the high school there and go back to her old school in AZ because the people were so weird. I'd ask this in the Pittsburgh forum, but they freak out. Buffalo is too neutral.
So what IS the deal???
(If you don't believe me, please see for yourself that the Pittsburgh forum is nuts and hates anyone who says anything even remotely negative about the city. I've tried, but people are nuts there!)
Well your immature reference to our city as "shi@@@sburgh" doesn't say much about you. My only complaint is that people here don't put a lot of common sense behind managing traffic, but at least when I see s car with a PA license plate I know their cars aren't held together by duct tape. Clevelanders don't have a whole lot to brag about these days. And its sad seeing the Cleveland and Detroit influence moving to my hometown of Erie.

People have been warm and very welcoming to me since I moved here a year and a half ago.

The original post wasn't written by a Clevelander. The Clevelanders on this thread have been mostly complimentary of Pittsburgh. I'd say it's ridiculous for anyone on either side to make fun of the other (including you). Both sides are similar and face the same challenges. There are certainly a number of cars owned by PA residents that are "held together by duct tape."

Also, what's the "Cleveland and Detroit" influence?

My sister lives in Mount Lebanon and loves it. She's just outside the city of Pittsburgh, but taxes are super high.

For me, Pittsburgh is less desirable than Cleveland only because of what surrounds Pittsburgh, but it's got a new culture of alternative health. Cleveland is growing in health medical. It all depends on your career and way of life.

It probably means something ignorant on the lines of crime and decay, ghetto culture, something like that.
